    Default Thoughts on Roskilde Festival

Well, the plan this year is do do Coachella, skip Bonnaroo and go to Glastonbury, but as of right now, without having Coldplay, Radiohead, Muse, Zeppelin, or really any other amazing headlining acts playing we might pass on it. Talks now are to go to The Roskilde Festival in Denmark since Radiohead, MBV, and The Chemical Brothers are all playing and I was wondering if anyone had any insight to the fest. How does it compare to Glastonbury? Crowd size, camp grounds, etc... Any additional info that you can give me would be great.

The festival campsite covers nearly 80 hectares and access to it is included in the ticket price. It usually opens on Sunday morning prior to the festival itself. Apart from the small and separate Camping South it is divided into two areas, east and west, each comprising a service center with establishments ranging from food stalls to a cinema. The campsite is further divided into 'agoras' that provide toilets, cell phone charging and luggage storage. They also host events according to each agora's theme: dance, skate, swim etc.

    How to get to Roskilde

There are regular trains from Copenhagen Central Station to Roskilde Station (35 kilometres). From here shuttle buses and trains leave for the festival area. Traffic is heavy in the festival period, so the best advice is to leave your car at home!

What to do if you come...

Catch an intercity train stopping in Roskilde. From Roskilde Station there are shuttle busses and trains to the festival area. Go to DSB’s website for more info.

...from Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic countries

If you travel by plane, there are trains from Copenhagen Airport directly to Roskilde Station. From here shuttle buses and trains leave directly for the festival area. You can also catch the train from Copenhagen Central Station to Roskilde Station.

...from Germany and the rest of Europe

If you travel by plane, there is direct train connection from Copenhagen Airport to Roskilde Station. If you arrive by train from Hamburg or Berlin, take the train from Copenhagen to Roskilde Station. From Roskilde Station there are shuttle busses and trains directly to the festival area.

...from the rest of the world

    The crowds are crazy.
In 2000, I believe four people died. But they have some very exclusive acts.

But I'm curious as to why you are skipping Bonnaroo?

Well the plan was to do a trip to Europe the week of Bonnaroo which is right before Glastonbury therefore we wouldn't be able to do it. Plus, money becomes an issue too if you are flying overseas

    Wow...that looks off the hook.

Damn, I need to start traveling to more festivals other than Coachella.

9 people died. I was in Belgium for Werchter Festival and Roskilde was the day(s) before Werchter. Those who died were crushed/smothered during Pearl Jam's set as the crowd tried to push forward to get closer. The weather had been bad (rainy) and people were sitting down on tarps and just got trampled. Very tragic.
