I cant seem to find anything less than $250 dollars a night and I cant really afford that. Would it be horrible to drive my car from Maine and sleep in some sort of parking lot?

LOL...really salty. But yeah, he's right...Salton Sea is a shithole ghost town. You should be able to find a somewhat nice spot, though. Not a good choice if you ask me...it's not close, either. Why didn't you just camp on site? Under 18's in the group?
