Depeche Mode 2008 update!

Little bits and pieces are trickling through at a steady pace. The Depeche Mode machinery is getting in gear, and we’ll try to sift through the information, and give you a summary of what’s going on!

As we reported way back in July of last year, Depeche Mode are set to return to the studio in early 2008. Well now we know.

The band met earlier this month, and agreed to hit the studio in March.

Martin’s been writing songs, and has already taken his new compositions into pre-production (ie. not just demos), working with Sie Medway-Smith in Martin’s home studio in Santa Barbara.

Dave has also been writing, although details of his progress are scarce.

EMI in Spain let slip that Mute are hoping to have the album ready at the end of this fiscal year, in time for Christmas. A tentative date of “late November” was circulated to retailers and media in Spain, via the IFPI owned operation Promusicae. Sources close to the band tells us to expect a tour to be announced some time in the early fall of 2008, with tickets going on sale in September or October. A tour would probably not start till early 2009, however.

Ok, they need to make this one, and if it tanks, get the second volume of a ''greatest hits'' released, then have a farewell tour to cash in and quit. Daves voice cant hold out that much longer.



If you think its going to make it that they play Coachella again, think again.

They can't do any more greatest hits releases; they've done just about all they can-not to mention remastering and rereleasing all their previous albums recently. They're on the right track; their last album was on par with MFTM.

In any case, they'll never play Coachella again-the crowd had a really lame reaction which killed their energy. They played the Hard Rock in Vegas the night after their Coachella performance, and it was the best show I've ever seen them do--and I've seen them numerous times.

Cause they did In Your Room and Blue Dress thats why.The show at the Joint in November 2005 was insane.And they can do another greatest hits, cause the first one says ''volume one'' Jen.

I have four greatest hits CD's....Catching Up, 81-85, 86-98, and the last volume.

And no, not because of Blue Dress. It was the highest energy show I've ever seen them do.

Still though, I have that live disc, my friend went to it she loved it, got the setlist too, the mix sucked but you coudl hear the crazy Dmoders in full force. And maybe everyone there was freaking cause they had come form coachella and still thinking about Daft Punk?

I personally enjoyed the Coachella performance even if they were drunk.

I love Depeche Mode. At Coachella their performance was just so so...in my opinion.

I saw them in concert not to long after Coachella and they were MUCH more on point.

I'd love to hear some new material by them, but am weary because, I agree with suprefan, I am not sure how much longer Gahan's voice will hold on for.

I liked DM live better outside of Coachella myself. They probably should have geared the setlist more towards casual fans (i.e. more upbeat hits).

DM live outside of any festival is always better. Their live shows are magic at times, Dave is a real front man in every since of the word. His voice has aged well.

The remasters series they did is something everyone should own (well 90% of it anyway).

Yeah being a health nut now helps - he's done his fair share of bodily damage, but the vocals I heard on Playing, and the tour shows I saw that followed, he sounded damn good, not Violator good - but damn good considering.

the the same weekend. I did watch online on at&t blue room.
I thought their performance was off. Were they really drunk?
What was the crowd like during their performance?

I thought the crowd was pretty into them, the short time I was there. I had seen them three times on that tour and that was the worst sounding performance. They were good/excellent a few nights before up at Shoreline so I don't know what happened with Dave.

No, they weren't drunk. It's known that DM feeds off the energy of the crowd--the more the crowd is into it, the better they are. I've seen DM enough times to know (four times on the last tour) that they were having a hard time getting the crowd into it. I mean, christ, they play Photographic for the first time in like 15-20 years and no one even got it.

I regret that I missed that one. Jacob dragged me over to Atmosphere on the way to Daft Punk. I wasn't feeling DM that much anyway.
