Default CREATE A FESTIVAL - ROUND #4 - 3 DAYS IN THE LIFE VS. RAZZMATAZZ

Create a Festival - Round #4 - 3 days in the Life vs. Razzmatazz Festival.

Okay, here is the first match of the fourth round, which incorporates set times! You're voting on which festival you like the best. Take into account any type of factor(s) you want. Which bands you like the best. The location. The ticket price. The extras. The set times. Pretend if you had one choice of going to a festival, and you were gonna spend your money on one of these, which would it be? Whatever the case, you're voting one of these into the next round!

Voting will last 3 days, and you're only allowed to vote if you have 200 posts or more (votes are public, so I'll know, so don't waste your time if you have less than 200 - unless you've entered a poster yourself). And NO alias voting. If I even suspect you to be an alias, you're votes won't count (sorry bug, abe, granny and more).

    Winner moves onto the Semi-Finals!

Nice touch with the stage names at 3 days. From an English point of view, some of the running orders are very unrealistic. Elbow are huge (especially up that part of the country) and would probably be second only to Radiohead on that stage.

Razzmatazz has only 4 stages, which spend more time empty than in use (or go to the other extreme - 15 min changeover - good luck with that).

Actually the 15 minute changeovers for electronic acts are legitimate, as long as it's a DJ being setup next.

But something that sticks out to me is that both of these posters REALLY abused the no curfew rule, jesus... I dont think I can stay up till 4 am for an act, I'd be too damn tired!

The Sahara tent at Coachella uses 0-15 minutes of downtime since most are DJ acts. I guess they set up for Daft Punk behind a curtain while Carl Cox and Audio Bullys spun in front of it.

However... I doubt it would only take LCD Soundsystem and Goldfrapp 15 minutes to change up, for example.

Either way, you have to have a little suspension of belief to vote on these things, I'll get back to this with full analysis.

Is anyone going to post what they would see in these hypothetical situations (I have mine typed out) or would that be tl;dr?

I'm going to have to go with Razzmatazz. There's lots of great acts at both, but the days end up being more full at Razz, and 3 Days has the most-downtime and the most "ouch" conflicts for me. The Pulp reunion, Asobi Seksu, Sigur Ros in Iceland, Gorillaz, and ALI G also seal it for me.

As much as we all would like to see it, Radiohead and Kraftwerk would never play for three hours, and the likes of Jarvis and the Postal Service don't have 2 hours worth of material.

I had a really hard time deciding which festival to choose. I dont miss as many bands that I want to see if I go to 3 Days In The Life which is good. However, Sat and Sun of Razzmatazz have the best 1-2-3-4 punches ever to end a festival, and I dont think I could justify missing them for anything. Therefore my vote goes to Razzmatazz

I LOVE the settimes for Razz, really good job there, having time to see one band and having 5 min to get to the next stage...no real conflicts for me at all on that great lineup...you got my vote.

The settimes for 3 days in the life are a lil far fetched...3h sets? 3 1/2h sets...2h sets for alot of acts?
    Upcoming Shows:
    Kasabian/Bo Ningen: 10/1 @ Metro
Coachella: 4/10-12 @ Empire Polo Fields

I too feel the set times for 3 Days are a little too long to be realistic. As much as I'd like to see some bands play longer than they get at say,Coachella, part of show business is always leave them wanting more.I used to grow tired of Springsteen shows by the time he got to Devil With A Blue Dress.
Also,I'm not sure I could handle Yoko anytime of the day or night, but at 2 or 3 in the morning?
    Mental scarring.
One thing I noticed with 3 Days also is Cat Power directly conflicts with Malkmus & The Jicks and also conflict partially with Sufjan. This is a painful conflict for me.Also Boris vs. Eno,Kraftwerk vs. EITS vs. Ladytron vs. Vitalic, etc.
Shorter set-times would have definitely alleviated some of these conflicts.
I'm going to have to mull these over a lot, because there is a lot more information to process in these fests, since both have so many artists. They are both really good festivals, just with some heart-breaking conflicts.

To me, the headliners need to play earlier in the night...I just cant go through a whole day of a festival and then have to wait til PAST midnight for the big names to come on....the big names need to be on by 10 at the latest...take some advice/tips from how Bonnaroo does things...

Also I'd like to add that Elvis Costello wasn't on too many posters, and would make an infinitely better headliner than say,Jack Johnson. He is the perfect lead-in to Sir Paul,Sir Ringo and Co...

Furious about missing: The Streets and Rabbit in the Moon -- seriously, having the Streets directly conflict with Portishead is unconscionably cruel and may cost Razzmatazz my vote in a future round

    10:05-11:35 - Arcade Fire
    11:45-01:45 - David Bowie
    02:00-04:00 - Boards of Canada

Disappointed about missing: Spank Rock & Rodrigo y Gabriela

I like how I would get to see more complete sets or hour-long sets at 3 Days in the Life, but part of that is because there are fewer acts that I want to see. The wealth of acts I'm interested in at Razzmatazz does have its drawbacks, especially when the Streets are unforgivably scheduled at the same time as Portishead (for shame!), but the opportunity to see Portishead, Pulp, Radiohead, and Modeselektor in a row, as well as LCD Soundsystem, Royskopp, Arcade Fire, David Bowie, and Boards of Canada, is difficult to pass up.

I don't really like the style of how 3 days in the life set up their set times. I like how Razzmatazz has it set up so you know exactly who is conlficting with who, just by taking a quick look at it. 3 Days in the life you have to do a lot of scrolling and the such. Also, set times are much too long.

    Razzmatazz.

you could still get like 7.5 hours of sleep each night at each fest and not miss any music.

The more I look at the set times for Razzmatazz, the more I appreciate the care and thought put into them. For example,on Saturday I could catch full sets by Asobi Seksu,The Cardigans and Blonde Redhead, then decide I've had enough cute girl singer groups (not likely) and check out Thievery Corp. then Primal Scream! I could begin the evening watching Stevie Wonder (great choice here),followed by Portishead,Pulp,Radiohead and blow out the cobwebs by finishing with Mogwai.
I don't see a festival in the contest beating that Saturday!

The set times for 3 Days just proved way too irrealistic for me. Sorry, beautiful poster, even though it was a knock off of Cityfest from last year, set-times and all.

    My vote goes to Razz.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

This contest has gone beyond my ability to stay involved. I can't even figure out my schedule at festivals in real life.

Not to mention that Bird on a Wire was the best one and it didn't survive.

Hold on a second, Randy, I thought you said you'd be happy if Paul McCartney played a Coachella like festival... And with the guests that 3 Days has, I'm almost positive that Paul and co. would bust out some Beatles hits.

I think that the curfew is dumb because 3 hours of radiohead would be cool, but i like festivals that have short time for bands to play. That way they cut the shit and get to work. I think that Animal Collective would be better at a short time because they cant have 10 minute transitions. same with the Mars Volta, with no soloing for hours.

BTW i think having paul with all his guests is kind of cheating cause it is like a reunion without the reunion. I see that as solely Paul not with guests.

I agree with this. The fact that I'd have to stay up until 4am to see bands I want to see is definitely hurting both these festivals for me.
