    Cool photography at coachella

i cant decide if i should bring my rebel xti or not.. unless i sleep with it around my neck or something, i have fears it will totally get stolen or fucked in some way or another.. maybe the sx-70 would be a better idea.. but what i really want to know is how to get backstage. any suggestions?

Unless they changed the rules this year, you can't bring cameras with detachable lenses

i would suggest renting a locker and leaving it there overnight if your concerned about it being stolen, that is if you can bring it at all

I saw a lot of people with their Rebels, I think that security might let that slide somewhat, but all in all I was glad that I didn't try to bring mine. I would have been freaked the whole weekend about it getting wet, dropped, stolen, crazy dusty, etc. And uh...yeah. How to get backstage? Sleep with as much staff as you can. Ha!

    Where did my post go?

    Weird..............

Rules say ''no professional cameras allowed''

    Deal with it

And you wont see as much backstage as you think.

I'd like to bring my 30d but I'm afraid security won't let me get it into the festival, and leaving it in the car/tent under 120+ F doesn't sound like a good idea.

uh, i call bullshit... last year @ Stagecoach, Neko Case was bitching about how backstage at Main was all VIP and they had a chocolate fountain and even SHE couldn't get backstage, that only the main stage acts & willie could get back there...

The only way I know of getting in professional cameras would be to get media credentials. You are required to sign a waiver if you do work for a professional media outlet and are credentialed for the festival. As far as being in camp, I really never let my camera out of my sight (its worth a lot).

GV defines a professional camera as any camera that has a removable lens. So, if you have one of those rebels that has a lens that does not come off, you should be fine. If you are like me and have a Nikon d70 with a lot of lenses....you can't bring your camera in (trust me, Security does enforce the rules) unless you have the coveted media bracelet on.

    Read the rules people.

No Professional cameras - period. This IS enforced.

Why do we go through this every year?

Because everyone thinks that somehow... THEY will be the execption to the rule

I got in with a Nikon SLR the first day, and got to the festival around 3 or 4 PM. But the guy who checked me didn't even pat me down or anything, so...I think most guards would care more.

I wouldn't recommend bringing a nice camera, though, honestly. It was just something else to lug around. Totally interfered with dancing and was a constant source of worry.

That being said, I never got the film to work, so maybe I'm biased haha.

Although I don't know the rules, I would suspect that if you are caught inside the venue with professional photographic equipment, you could be asked to leave the event and your photos (or memory cards, etc.) would be confiscated...since those photos are the property of GV/the individual artists. So, my advice...BE CAREFUL!

I've seen numerous cameras, and their owners, being asked to leave the venue.

So the best bet is to get a Canon Powershot and go have fun without worrying about getting your camera or your day of fun nicked.

Yeah most people that are there aren't there for the bands anyway.

Since when is a Paris sighting a "good" thing - her being there is enough to put me off the festival a bit. God I'm glad I went in 99

better than seeing Ron Jeremy getting freaky with peaches?? Well, that didn't really happen at Coachella (so far as I know), but maybe it *could* have??
