You're money is well invested my friend,

I dont know what time signature it was in, but do you see them bouncing. That's the rhythm they are bouncing to.

I see them gyrating like epileptics. Which is basically what their music is.

And time signatures are not music theory snobbery, it's kinda one of the most basic concepts in music. If anyone can count out that fucking song and make any rhythmic sense of how they're playing I'd be amazed.

I did. I'm a drummer, that's why it sticks out to me. The kick is off beat. It's fucked up.

you are right the kick is in some weird time signature, but that does not render the song, much less the entire band rhythmless.

    it goes like this:

    9XBass1Xkick 6XBass1Xkick 6Xbass1Xkick....

    at least the first time.

I can't interpret what you wrote out there, but what it looks like to me is that the kick is in quarters but is falling an eighth note after each actual quarter. That's just fucking annoying. It fucks with my internal rhythm, cause it's CONSTANTLY falling not on the downbeat. It's the kind of bullshit that bands like this pull to be experimental, and in the meantime it leaves me irritated four times per measure because the beat isn't where it's supposed to be.

I know nothing about time signatures. I can count that's it. And there is a pattern. I can pick it up.

don't get me wrong, i really love animal collective, but i don't know if their performance in coachella 08 will be satisfying. i mean, they're known for playing mostly unreleased material on their concerts. for instance, in coachella 06 they played 'strawberry jam' material. they're probably just gonna play songs from their upcoming album. i hope not

There is a pattern, it's true. The time signature is actually just standard 4/4 now that I watched it again, it's just fucked up because the kick doesn't fall where it's supposed to.
