Theory/Wishful Thinking - Pink Floyd

I was thinking about the Rage Against the Machine debacle last year and how it was really hard for most people to get tickets, because they were playing sunday.

So it got me thinking. If Pink Floyd were every to reunite at a festival (like Coachella)...people would be going apeshit to get tickets. Same goes for a band like Led Zeppelin. People from all around the world would be trying to get tickets, thus making it hard for the long time fans of Coachella to get tickets.

My theory is that maybe Pink Floyd will reunite instead of it just being Roger Waters. So basically, all the fans buy the tickets now (because obviously the current line up won't sell out - so I assume)....and then they could later announce that they will playing as a reunited band. It would be a clever way of doing it, because the majority of the tickets would of been sold to fans, instead of scalpers/new coachella goers rushing to buy tickets all in one go on the first day.

I know..it's really wishful thinking. I highly doubt this could happen, especially given Gilmour and Waters relationship.

One can only "hope" i suppose.

Though mine revolved more around the fact that if pink floyd reunited, all the tickets would get bought up by OLD PEOPLE!!! old people tend to have money and nostalgic old people wouldn't mind paying the full price for the three day pass and just coming on the third day. And goldenvoice certainly doesn't want a ton of old people at their festival. its bad for the ambience. Thats been my theory for why the big classic rock names that tour rarely get booked for festivals (ie. Clapton, the Who). The Who headlined Glastonbury last year but they sell all the tickets before the lineup is even announced.

I definitely think its a crappy theory and won't happen but we can hope...

Yeah, I just remember Paul saying something like "We have something up our sleeves"...which could really mean nothing.

But think about how happy it would make so many people, if they announced they had tickets to see Pink Floyd reunited - and they didn't even have to fight with people over tickets.

The faster tickets get sold, the more interest they make on their money, the more sponsorship money they get from beer, food vendors, merchandise etc.. They would have even been able to have attracted better bands at lower prices.. Who in their right mind would turn down a chance to play with Pink Floyd at a reunion?? They would have much better bargaining power. (they would easily be able to sale three day passes for $500)
it's a pipe dream..but maybe it will happen some day..

And yes i realize Bonnarroo generally books classic legends (bob dylan last year and van morisson the year before) but that's not nearly as cool as coachella. its more like a folk fest, mostly rock. No dance tent.

Yeah, on the other hand, I was converted to Coachella last year because of Rage.

As soon as I heard Rage was reuniting, I bought tickets with my friends immedietly. Because of our experience, we plan on going back every year because we had such a great time.

Though this year, they put us to the test with Jack Fucking Johnson.

Then again, on the other hand its not like the headliners matter. Coachella always has so many sweet bands that the headliners are never the highlight, who goes to see the headliner? that would be lame, I've only actually seen 1.5 (only watched half of Depeche then hit the sahara for daft punk and last year saw Rage) out of the five headliners the last two years. Its all about the experience. There are generally always sweet sweet acts playing during the headliners, and sometimes they are way way better (DJ SHADOW, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM). Though this year I will definitely see Roger Waters (even if Justice is closing the dance tent). So heres an alternate theory: i'm sure GV knows they don't need crazy huge headliners anymore to have a successful coachella festival, there are so many loyals, why not save their cash for big names to promote their new east coast festival? That one is up against serious competition (lolla in august), and its new so there are no yearly loyals.

I think I recently read something where they said they wouldn't reunite unless it was for resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict, or something to that effect. In other words, it would take a very good cause to get them back on stage together.
