I'm so fucking overwhelmed by a lot right now, that's what made this difficult. I was depressed and bored for no fucking reason yesterday and I have no reason to be really. I'm a moody fuck, i'm guessing most people in my situation take meds or something. I dunno. I slept for 12 hours last night though and then decided the whole fucking trip is paid for except pitching in for gas and camping so I shouldn't back out. Anyway. game ON!

When entering the campground how frivolous is the search? I am 20 years old, but plan on bringing lots of liquor. Just trying to figure out whether or not I need to put it in water bottles and whatnot.

So, i'm so confused. The National is playing right? They are a must see. I saw only 2 of their songs at Coach and they were damn great. I have listened to just a little of the Mars Volta and they seem cool enough, just not super familiar as of yet. Rogdrigo Y Gabriella is nice, comparable to Calexico in some regards. I'm covered on all the headliners though I don't listen too much to REM and The Cure these days i've been listening to both of their greatest hits CD's, Galore and something in Time. I'm most excited for The Lips as they were the biggest selling point next to the venue being the most beautiful place on earth. I must admit though I still don't know alot of these fucking bands. I feel lame because of it but that's ok. I embarace my lame.

Saturday: I'm getting more excited about R.E.M. after listening to older stuff that I haven't heard in years. I wonder how much early 90s or 80s stuff they play? Also, the Breeders, MIA, might give the New Pornographers a try again, The National, Ozomatli, Beirut, Dengue Fever, Fleet Foxes. I plan on pretty much camping at the main stage. Might try to catch a few bands at the Yeti between sets.

Sunday: The Cure!!!, the Presidents, 65daysofstatic, Stephen Malkmus, The Kooks, Rogue Wave, probably some of White Rabbits, the Heavenly States, and the Blakes.

Monday: Flaming Lips, Rodrigo y Gabriela, maybe built to Spill (have seen them a few times), Yeasayer, Jamie Lidell, Battles (going to give another try), might give Ghostland another try, Thao etc etc, maybe some of Kinski and some others.

The two week extended forecast is now showing upper 80s each day of the fest with no clouds (99 this Saturday, ouch). The lows are now averaging 60 during the fest.

I am certainly interested in a critique of the Wildhorse campground. Has anyone camped at each? My thought was always that Wildhorse was for people over the age of 35 who don't like to party, because one of the best things about the Gorge is the party at the main campground. Each year, we go on walkaboots with pockets full of beer just to see what type of elaborate campsites there are. We always meet several cool people. One year, I stumbled upon an RV rave, complete with a DJ, dance floor, and laser lights. It is also nice to be able to walk to and from the venue whenever you like rather than waiting for a shuttle (even though the walk is a good 30 minutes).

Of course they were not announcing re-entry was allowed in the venue. I was one of the few who didn't think I would be allowed back in, so I stuck around. I ended up stripping down in port-a-can and wringing my clothes out. I was wearing shorts, tee shirt, and sandals too. I then sat through 2 hours of the less than thrilling Ben Harper while freezing cold to see the Flaming Lips, without knowing anything about their live shows. Under the circumstances, it became the second most memorable show I've been to.

When I tell this story 20 years from now, I will have been shirtless and barefoot wearing only a speedo, and had to sit through a four hour Ben Harper set while it snowed, but when the Flaming Lips came on, it was worth the wait, because the sun came out and it warmed up to 89 degrees, at 1am.

I think one of the security people told us about the re-entry thing. We left with the intention of coming back but by the time we had made the long cold walk back to camp we were done for the day. I'd be totally happy with partly cloudy, mid 60s to 70s this year but you never know with the Gorge.

Well '05 had blistering heat.
'06 had hail & rain
'07 had very strong winds and it was friggin' freezing.
'08 ?? Locusts ? 4 horsemen ? Snow ?

I bring a tarp when I go just in case.

I wouldn't go without raingear. The weather is highly unpredictable so you should be prepared for just about anything. It can go from hot and sunny at midday to downright chilly in the evening. Once the sun sets the winds pick up and having a sweatshirt or jacket is highly recommended.

Ok. I plan on bringing a sweatshirt and jeans and some short sleeve shirts. A pancho would be good as well I see. The only thing I lack is tent protection I think though i'm not sure. I guess I will finally unpack my tent and see. It's a small 6x8 tent I got at walmart for $17. I will make sure to be ready for wind, rain, hail and heat.

Bring a couple cheap tarps. One to go below your tent and one as extra cover for above your tent if there's heavy rain.

Sunscreen and a hat are good idea since there isn't really any shade.

Yea, it's even reaching 80 though here in normally chilly SF.

The Wildhorse campgrounds - I've never been before of course but I'll be glad to post afterwards. I am not over 35 but I like to sleep. :P I think I'm going to make an effort to see some of the earlier bands so I probably won't stay up too late.

Raingear - would a rain resistant windbreaker be sufficient, or does one need actual *raingear*. I mean for my person, I'll bring ground cover & tarp for tent of course.

Yeah, you should be OK. The main thing is to go for layers that you can add and subtract throughout the day. It was crazy windy last year to the point that the shows were stopped. We huddled under our blanket and waited it out but we were glad to have our jackets at that point.

Uhhh... NMH... just cause there are no end to the set times, don't expect the band to play until the next band starts. Expect there to be between 20-30 minutes seting up for the next band. I don't quite know why Sasquatch didn't list the end of each bands set...

Yeah I know, I just extended if the next artist was playing the same stage, since I would be waiting there anyway. The times are just really bad guesses anyway, I doubt I'll be able to get in some of these bands, but hopefully most.

I have a camping related question for all you sasquatch vets..

I am going all three days, but am also going with some friends who are only planning on going one/possibly two of the days. I know that on the website it says "in order to be on the campground you must either posses a ticket or intend on getting one". Basically I am just trying to see how hard the campground enforces this rule because on some of the days my friends are just going to be chilling in the campground all day/night long without going to the actual show....

When you first drive up to the entrance all they do is check your camping ticket and give you the paper pass to hang on you rear view mirror. That's it.

Realistically as long as your friends don't act like jackasses or are only there selling drugs or other illegal crap that draws attention to them there shouldn't be any problems.

Alright.. That's what I thought.. Are there typically atleast a couple people who camp out all day/night and party? I don't want my friends to be really fucking bored, but it's their fault for not buying tickets I guess.
