So wait... at the very front of the mainstage, the sealed off part is GA? You just have to line up to get in there? How early does that area fill up?
The main stage area viewing areas in a nutshell
1. front pit
2. main floor
3. VIP seats (actual seats to sit on)
4. The terrace (flat grass to sit on)
5. Grassy Hill (a rather steep hill so be careful walking down. It's prpobably the main reason the Gorge says no tarps. The whole sliding factor.
If anything I think everyone should experience The Gorge venue at least once in their life.
If you get there before the first mainstage act begins you'll notice that the sides of that front section are open. The fencing at the back of that area is just there to protect from the whole floor area from shoving forward and potentially crushing people. The whole floor area goes in cycles. So if you want to get in, my suggestion is to be in the vicinity during the act before the one you want to be up front for and as soon as the band is done start fighting your way through the masses that are leaving.
I'm sure someone's mentioned this, but based on the tour schedule, it's pretty clear that REM, Modest Mouse, and the National will likely be there:
May 23 - Vancouver, BC - Deer Lake Park
May 29 - Los Angeles, CA - Hollywood Bowl
May 31 - San Francisco, CA - Greek Theatre
*based upon tedious fact checking.
Depending on what time and who's on stage, you might be able to walk right in. I sat through (endured if you will) The Long Winters and Spoon in that section just so I could be in there for Arcade Fire/Bjork.
I doubt you will get in there if you show up right before a headliner (unless it's Jack Johnson)
Even if you don't get in there, there is a gentle slope to that concrete'd area which allows for good views. I was at the very back of that area for Beck in '06 and I was level with/slightly above the stage level.
Yes. Undoubtedly.
Looks like I won't be going to Sasquatch this year either. The line up isn't shaping up to be too interesting for me. REM is not that great live, I already saw The National this year, I don't like Modest Mouse, and I hate the Cure. I'd love to see Gang of Four though.
How about we start an non-official list...
Confirmed (from other sources i.e. myspace, official sites etc.):
The Cure - headlining Sunday
65 Days Of Static
The Heavenly States
Fleet Foxes
Highly likely (not confirmed officially but has info supporting the likelyhood):
R.E.M.
Modest Mouse
The National
Gang of Four
Death Cab for Cutie
Not Happening:
Radiohead - likely not hitting the west until the summer
I'll certainly be not happy if Radiohead doesn't headline. That said, Sasquatch is more than great music. I remember walking up to gospel music and seeing the great vistas beyond the campground. The Gorge is beyond belief.
Just the entire vibe of Sasquatch is grand, toss in the music for an added bonus. I'll still make a week out of it. Head up to Vancouver Island for some spelunking and hang out in Seattle for a day or two.
Last year's line-up would be tough to beat, with or without Radiohead. Bjork, Interpol, Arcade Fire, Beastie Boys, The Polyphonic Spree...
Speaking of Polyphonic, I followed The Spree to a few states last fall and befriended several of the band members. They weren't very happy with Sas, and it went beyond their mainstage show being cut short because of high winds. I'd love to see them again there but I don't know how likely that is.
For me, Sas is more about bands like The Spree, versus the harder acts. I had to protect my date from being squashed at Sasquatch during an impromptu mosh pit.
I was at the Outdoor chilling with a friend and waiting for Arcade Fire during Gang of Four.
A month after Coachella...sigh, too bad R.E.M. isn't playing instead of Jack Johnson... I so have to go to that Bowl gig, though.
anyone have a guess of when the line up will be announced?
The last couple years Sasquatch has announced their lineup in February. Probably around the 19th. This has been mentioned both on page 1 and page 2 of this thread already.
has R.E.M announced when their tickets will go onsale yet?
I emailed the info email on the Sasquatch page on a lark, and someone wrote me back and said "mid February." So there's that...
