Based solely on the fact that Friday contains considerably less artists than the other two days, I would not be surprised to see The Police added to Coachella yet. Further, I think that it will be similar to Madonna last year, where there will be very limited competition in their time slot. It was far less than ideal, but GV proved that they could get away with it.

I think that the announcement will come after their Grammy appearance next month, which would make sense (don't want to steal thunder from their first performance in 20 years). I could be wrong, but until Friday fills up, it's possible. Does anyone agree, disagree?

very interesting, it makes sense, but so do a lot of things.

The fact is I DO think we'll see a nice sized surprise that's yet to be announced. Could be the Police, but more likely The Shins, Modest Mouse, or someone of that level.

Clarification: this prediction does not mean a tent, however... I think that they will play the main Coachella Stage.

I more or less agree with you that it's unlikely, and that a sub-headliner is more plausible. It's just the fact that there are 6-7 fewer artists that give it a chance.

mogwai played during her set last year...i think it was the best thing GV ever did. The crowd for mogwai was small and perfect. Best act of the weekend.

Yes, I remember it well... I was happy to see stellastarr* just before Madge, unfortunately missed the Editors' set, but caught a good part of Mogwai.

They will absolutely play. Sting hasn't said no to a reunion tour which, historically, is the only obstacle. Each member of the band stands to make $50 million from a US tour. Coachella is the first, best logical place to announce their return. Gets them set up for a summer festival run in US and Europe. The massive influx of cash will keep the egos in check until the wheels fall off the wagon after the Shea Stadium finale.
