Whose hitchhiked across the united states before?

Im from Newfoundland and im thinking about hitch hiking there. Any guess how long that would take to hitch across the states and is that very dangerous?

i'd say don't do it. If you have to, don't take rides from a single driver. Do not do it if you're a girl. Just take a train.

A lot of states could be dangerous and a lot of states make it illegal as well. I've found most friendly hitch hiking states are California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada.

i tried to hitchhike home after the first night of coachella with my friend and nobody picked us up....and that was at a music festival. that said the girl who picked us up the next night gave us a ride home the third day too. so i guess it just depends on whos driving by

Last year I stood in front of the Ihop closest to the campgrounds and ended up getting picked up by someone who lived less then a mile from me.. Crazy shit.

I would say cross country would be pretty dangerous.

don't do it cross country. hop a plane, train, or bus to BC, then hitchhike down the west coast.

Yep that would be the best way.. Funniest shit is while in washington along the 5 you occasionally see those anti hitchhiking signs which just so happen to have a black hand...

I've picked up and been picked up on the 5 in Oregon.. People literally walk and bike on that shit.. Don't see much of that around here.. haha.

I hitchhiked in Europe in the mid-90s but never here. Americans are scary.

in 08 i picked up these two guys from australia who said theyve hitchhiked from somewhere in south america the entire month before coachella

My ex and I used to hitchhike all over the place for a few years. If you're a girl, don't do it alone. She had a couple awkward experiences but was able to get away. I never had a bad experience, and always got picked up quick (except once when I spent 8 hrs on an onramp in San Jose). You will do better the further you get from big cities. Make sure you don't look intimidating or have a bunch of shit with you, that helps too.

There is a trail that leads from Mexico to Canada on the west coast, It took my friend about 5 or 6 months I think, but he said it was the most life changing thing he has ever done.

Yeah the Pacific Crest Trail. I want to hike that in the next couple of years if I can find someone who is willing to go with me.
