I don't think this has been brought up yet, but I am very possibly wrong. Any word on R.E.M. making it to Coachella? I see they are on for SXSW so it leads me to believe they may do another festival or two.

Only word on R.E.M. is that everything has stunk since Automatic, possibly Green even.
Sorry - I loathe newer R.E.M. when compared to the IRS years.

I agree that I am mainly interested if they play the old stuff; Murmur, Eponymous, Life's Rich Pageant, etc. Their new album is out in April and supposedly (big supposedly) it is a return to the old rocking days. I doubt that is possible anymore and that they are only going to draw crowds at Langerdo and SXSW because of the overall vibe.

I hope it's good - I know they got another great album in them, I just don't see it coming out. I don't know why?

Considering new record comes out in late Spring, and they've often been rumored for Coach, it could be possible...I'd be up for it though, yes, not like the old days...
explain the RHCP last year then...
I was listening to UP again today...been a bit. and was trying to understand the haters, it surprises me how many people "automatically" dismiss this album.
I can understand expectations based on previous albums being a benchmark (Life's Rich Pageant is still my favorite of all time.)
And UP may not be the raw 'mumble vocal' energy of I.R.S. - but it is definitely an amazing record.
A worthy new direction from a band exploring new territotry and a new band dynamic. It is thematically creative, beautifully somber - a fluid album from A-Z worthy of respect.
Reveal and Around the Sun...not so much.
I will be happy with R.E.M.
At some point in time a man switches from "I'll have what he's having" to "I'll have what I'm having."
RHCP played a festival 8 months earlier. REM are playing a Langerado a month before and they are also playing SXSW (whenever that is.) Both are WAY to close to Coachella.
Maybe if they were just playing Langerado. But when they were confirmed for SXSW, it killed all hope.
REM is REM!!!!!!! we need them!!!!
I still don't consider SXSW a festival. It's basically a week-long street party that charges an arm and a leg for tickets and is near impossible to get into the small clubs to see shows even when you have a wristband. It's a showcase for bands, basically. I seriously doubt anyone wouldn't go to Coachella if R.E.M. are there simply because they're also playing at SXSW.

New Adventures in Hi-Fi may be their best album.
After that though, it is all down hill.
this has been brought up... R.E.M. is awesome no matter where you get snooty along their discography...
oh yea and they would be great at coachella
Couldn't agree with you more. "Up" is certainly my favorite R.E.M. record -- greater even than "Automatic for the People" -- and possibly my favorite album of all-time.
The entire album is painfully beautiful. However, a listener can't suck all of the beauty out of it in one listen; it requires time, attention, and an understanding of poetry to truly "get it."
My only disagreement is that I actually like "Around the Sun." That one, too, requires time and attention to detail -- but it has some pretty sweet rewards for those who treat it accordingly.
