I never said earplugs don't matter... I just didn't feel the need to wear them during that specific set.

I thought MBV was loud enough at Coachella for ear plugs. I thought the Cure was pretty loud too. When I saw APTBS at Webster Hall, they were also loud, but my ear plugs weren't very good, so I didn't wear them.

I recently got some Etymotic earplugs and have worn them to the last three shows I've been to and will probably wear them to all the upcoming shows I have.

Well, you indicated that earplugs during MBV's set at Coachella may not have been necessary. They absolutely were if you plan to hold onto your hearing long term.

    They weren't necessary... for ME.

Tell you what, if I go deaf in 20 years because of a MBV set in 2009 I'll buy you a frozen lemonade.

They absolutely were necessary FOR YOU. You must be pretty young. Sure, I'll take you up on your bet. But you and I both know it won't matter. Why are you screwing around? Do you think you don't need to hear properly in your later years?

I don't understand why you give a shit if another person chooses to wear earplugs or not. Do you scold earplugless people at shows?

No, I do not. Do you believe my intent here to be disingenous or somehow self-serving?

I used earplugs the second day of Epicenter 2010 & I'm glad I did. Damn, some of that music was just screaming into the microphone crap.

lately i've been using CVS brand ear wedges and i've found them to cut overall volume really well without losing high frequency much at all. they are the light green colored ones in the generic cvs box

Its like 4 bucks for a pack of 15 or 20 i think.

I started using them recently and so far i'm very happy with em.

I made the mistake of not wearing earplugs until recently. Stupid me always in front of the stage shooting, I definitely have some hearing loss now.

do you mind me asking how much they cost? then again it might be overkill for me since i'm not a musician, just a concert goer.

Around $185. I'm looking at it as a long-term investment, considering the amount of loud music I play/listen to in concert. I think it is a pretty reasonable price for well-made, custom-fit earplugs.

Yeah. I put this off for way too long. My hearing is already fucked up. Nothing terrible, but kind of ridiculous considering I'm 22 years old.

Thanks for this. Link is favorited and I am bumping the idea of custom plugs up in terms of priority. Not only do I go to plenty of loud concerts, but I ride a loud motorcycle in heavy traffic almost daily. Time to move on from the disposable plugs I think. When you get yours, would you mind sharing thoughts?

I recently started wearing earplugs because many of the people around me noticed that i often ask people to repeat themselves and I can't seem to control the volume of my voice for the given situation (either speaking too softly/loudly). I went and got a hearing test and my ability to hear certain frequencies has deteriorated. So now I wear earplugs whenever I remember to bring them to protect the hearing I have now. I'm pretty young so if I want to continue to go to concerts and actually enjoy what I hear then I'm going to do what I have to do to protect that.

I purchased the etymotic earplugs and they work well for me.

Did you order the 9dB, 15dB, or 25dB filters? I'm assuming 25 since that's around the range of the foam ear plugs, but I don't know that much about these things.
