Create A Festival - Round #3 - Bird on a Wire vs. Summerfest

Okay, here is the second match of the third round. You're voting on which festival you like the best. Take into account any type of factor(s) you want. Which bands you like the best. The location. The ticket price. The extras. Pretend if you had one choice of going to a festival, and you were gonna spend your money on one of these, which would it be? Whatever the case, you're voting one of these into the next round!

Voting will last 3 days, and you're only allowed to vote if you have 200 posts or more (votes are public, so I'll know, so don't waste your time if you have less than 200 - unless you've entered a poster yourself). And NO alias voting. If I even suspect you to be an alias, you're votes won't count (sorry bug, abe, granny and more).

Please note, the winner of this round will move onto Round 4, which is the first round that will start including set times...so reminder: WHOEVER WINS THIS CONTEST, REMEMBER YOU SUBMIT SETTIMES FOR THE NEXT ROUND (I'LL EMAIL YOU INFO).

    Choice #1

    Bird on a Wire

    Location: Baltimore, Maryland
    Ticket Price: $177.00
    Reunion Band: Spacemen 3
    Onsite Camping

    Choice #2

I'd expect something called Bird on a Wire to have Rogue Wave, but I guess not.

Between during the day on Saturday and Sunday's headliner, Summerfest easily wins.

Bird has a really strong Friday but... Baltimore sucks and the other one has a better lineup.

    Two more interesting entries.

    More bands I like: Summerfest
    Consistency: draw
Headliners: Bird on a Wire (hard to vote against Radiohead and Massive Attack, but Bowie, Prince, and Beck would be ass-shaking good times)
    Sub-headliners: Bird on a Wire
    Undercard: Summerfest
    Reunion: draw
Venue: Summerfest, because it lists an actual venue
    Diversity: draw
    Unique/unusual acts: draw
Poster: Bird on a Wire is one of the best posters I've seen yet.
Wild card: neither has Asobi Seksu, but Summerfest has Cat Power

    Winner: Summerfest

Principle of the Matter: Okay... Just point blank I'm going to be biased against Bird on a Wire... Fuck the rulings about the Smiths and Floyd, Bowie and Prince should be banned by virtue of 60% of the posters having both headliners... That's just ridiculous...

Aesthetic: Orange is a good color... Just when it isn't paired up with fucking yellow. Also, I know enough about England to know that it's never that bright in London, even during summer. At least Bird looks as bleak and gray as Baltimore does in my mind. That being said, I'd rather go to bleak, gray London than bleak, gray Baltimore... But GOD Summerfest's poster is ugly.
    Goes to: Tied

Lineup Aesthetic: I just saw a massive typo and horrid placement on Bird already... LEMON Jelly (not Lemony Jelly, which is adorable) is not a bottom tier dance act... In fact, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see them be given Justice status as a dance headliner in the next contest. However, I definitely get the vibe that Bird on a Wire was organized with an Affirmative Action clause... Atmosphere over The Shins? (TRAVIS over the Shins? LOL), The Roots over the Stooges?... Please. Everything else about Bird checks out right, though. The only thing that irks me about Summerfest (besides the poster itself) is that Aesop Rock is billed too low. I would say the same for the Black Angels but they're about as relevant as Travis nowadays...
    Goes to: Summerfest

Headliners: I'm not going to repeat my thoughts about Bird on a Wire's choices. Beck is nice, and sure, Radiohead is just as overdone, but it's 1 headliner I've seen on too many posters as opposed to 2. Plus, I think that Summerfest is pretty brave in terms of booking the Wu-Tang Clan as a headliner. Also, Massive Attack >>>> Bowie, Prince, Beck.
    Goes to: Summerfest

Reunion: Oooh... A battle of who can out-indie the other hipster in terms of a reunion choice... To be perfectly honest, I'm more familiar with the bands that were fostered by the reunion's split (Spiritualized) or fostered the band in the first place (Neutral Milk Hotel... to an extent). So... It's a split.
    Goes to: Tie

Subheadliners: My principle is that the subs are the top 3-4 bands after the headliner. If OTC were a sub-headliner, they would cancel out Spaceman 3, but since that isn't the case, I'd rather see Spaceman 3 over The Verve. Public Enemy and the Strokes on both posters cancel each other out. But essentially I find myself looking at Bird's subheadliners more than it's headliners (Postal Service, Flaming Lips, Gorillaz, Underworld, Atmosphere, The Roots... no contest).
Goes to: Bird on a Wire

Top 10 Unmentioned Acts of Each Festival:
    (Italics indicate great interest)
Bird: The Magnetic Fields, My Morning Jacket, David Grey, LCD Soundsystem, Squarepusher, Spoon, Grinderman, Aesop Rock, Okkervil River, Man Man
Summerfest: Royksopp, Feist, Brian Eno, Cat Power, Gogol Bordello, The National, The Bravery (WOAH, what the fuck? Awesome), Aphex Twin, Spiritualized, Andrew Bird
    Goes to: Summerfest

Why, God, Why?: Well, Bird on a Wire doesn't have anything that makes me twinge. Summerfest, on the other hand, not only has an exhorbitant amount of Pitchfork bands (especially Sat. and Sun. where I count 6), but TV on the Radio (ugh, before the Strokes too, damnit...), and Animal Collective and Battles back to back... *cringes*
Goes to: Bird on a Wire

Overall: Overall I'm not really big on either festival... I mean, the only sensible segway into Massive Attack would be Broken Social Scene and I doubt I see that happening. The way that Summerfest's creator has drawn up the lineup, I'd probably end up seeing Public Enemy before Massive Attack, which is alright but I'm not thrilled at the prospect. But I'm voting for Summerfest mainly because I took a look at both festival's individual days and saw whether or not there was a day where I would want to see a band listed on every line (except headline) of the festival lineup. Neither fest has one, but Summerfest came close on two occasions, while Bird only came close on one occasion.
    Goes to: Summerfest
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

The poster for Summerfest makes me want to go on a stabbing spree. Ugh.

With that being said, Sunday at Summerfest is insanely good. But Saturday is pretty damn good at Bird On A Wire.

What boggles my mind is how Public Enemy are main subheadliners on both posters. I saw them at Vegoose this year, and they were fun. Nothing amazing though. How they are main subheadliners, confuses me.

I will have to think on this.

Bird on a Wire makes me want to vote for it because it has such a pretty poster. Summerfest definitely has a greater quantity of bands which interest me. But Bird on a Wire has bands that I want to see more intensely. Both reunions are outstanding.

The undercards for both are fairly equal and I like Bird on a Wire's headliners a bit more (I actually like Radiohead & Massive Attack a lot more than Bowie & Prince, but Beck makes up more than the difference against Wu Tang), but Summerfest wins me over with Cat Power, Trent Reznor, and the Knife.
