Create A Festival - Wild Card Round #2 - Goldcoast Festival vs. Cascade Festival

Okay, here is the last match of the second wild card round. You're voting on which festival you like the best. Take into account any type of factor(s) you want. Which bands you like the best. The location. The ticket price. The extras. Pretend if you had one choice of going to a festival, and you were gonna spend your money on one of these, which would it be? Whatever the case, you're voting one of these into the next round!

Voting will last 3 days, and you're only allowed to vote if you have 200 posts or more (votes are public, so I'll know, so don't waste your time if you have less than 200 - unless you've entered a poster yourself). And NO alias voting. If I even suspect you to be an alias, you're votes won't count (sorry bug, abe, granny and more).

    Choice #1

    Goldcoast Festival

    Location: Gold Coast, Australia
    Ticket Price: $191.00
    Reunion Band: Neutral Milk Hotel
    Onsite Camping
    No Noise Curfew
    Open Taping
    Ferris Wheel

    Choice #2

    Cascade Festival

    Location: Marfa, Texas
    Ticket Price: $200.00
    Onsite Camping
    No Noise Curfew
    Open Taping

I'm really despising the drop shadow on Cascade's poster font. And the dark-red on grey.

Once I spent a few minutes deciphering Cascade's poster, it turned out that I liked it the best of any festival so far. I might like it better than mine, which is weird considering all I did with mine was make a list of the bands I wanted to see the most.

I do have to say, though, I really like the layout/fonts/color of Goldcoast's poster. If this were a poster contest, my vote so far would be a tie between Goldcoast and Fringe Beach.

Also <3 Illya Kabakov. Although I want to know if the Kabakov and Oldenburg installations will be separate from their pre-existing work on the Chinati property.

I like the explicit statement of what the film/art exhibits will be. That's a really neat idea.

Yeah, no doubt. Cascade's headliners blow away Gold Coast's, there's almost twice as many bands that I would be interested in seeing, most of those are bands that I'd be passionate about checking out, and the film school and sunrise installations would put it over the top if the contest was even close. I've got bad eyesight so making out some of the bands on either poster is kinda difficult for me but I do like the look of Cascade's more. This will be a serious contender to win the whole contest.

Can't disagree. Cascade just level jumped this contest.

even though, if Cascade traded NMH for Radiohead it would be flawless.

Very good lineup for Cascade, but why the fuck would I want to go to Texas?

In other words a vote for Cascade is a vote for Republicans.

Funny, I thought a vote for Cascade was a vote for Prince, David Bowie, Radiohead, Portishead, the Knife, FSOL, Fiona Apple, Sigur Ros, the Streets, Lemon Jelly, Soulwax, MSTRKRFT, Burial, Ghostland Observatory, Goldfrapp, Royskopp, M.I.A., Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hot Chip, Simian Mobile Disco...

Oh, wait, I get it. Are you responsible for Gold Coast, Bosco?

I think Gold Coast was the best festival I had seen thus far... but Cascade looks like it may be better. I need to step back and revisit this later.

The poster for Gold Coast definitely looks better, though.

This is the first poster I've seen where the stellar lineup outweighs the retarded location SO much that i'd settle for texas to see this shit.

Right you are, Bosco did not enter despite my attempts to coerce him to enter... Damn shame.

Aesthetics: EYE CHART BATTLE... Seriously, lol. I will say that Cascade's poster does look more... Concert-y and less Paint Shop-y. Also, in terms of travel aesthetics, yes Australia would be nice to visit, but in terms of a mini-vacation (which a 3 day festival ought to be), I'd rather mozy on down to Texas.
    Goes To: Cascade

Lineup Aesthetics: Kudos to Cascade for being the first festival so far to say "SCREW YOU, REUNION BANDS, YOU AIN'T GETTIN' SHIT!". Anyway, I already elaborated on Goldcoast's lineup aesthetic (which, by and large, is quite alright, though the headliners do seem a tad lax, AND there's the fact that a large number of acts can be detrimental, if the number is too over-taxing), however Cascade's is interesting. The headliners make sense, as does most else, the only thing to note is that I feel Spiritualized aren't big enough to be 2nd from the top (PJ Harvey suits that, more so), but that's really just splitting hairs. Still... why the fuck is The Streets billed so damn high, and Grinderman scraping the bottom?
    Goes to: Tied

Headliners: *yawn* Cascade is your usual thoroughfare of Prince + David Bowie + Radiohead, which is guaranteed (lest it run into another festival of the same kin, like So of Co) to get the festival far on name power alone, but frankly does not impress me in the least. I think I'd rather catch Iggy over David Bowie, David Bowie over Prince, and NMH over Radiohead, because I doubt I'd ever get the chance to see NMH live ever again (or, in real life, ever will).
    Goes to: Goldcoast

Sub-Headliners: Both festivals share PJ Harvey and Sigur Ros ON THE SAME DAY (as each other), Portishead levels out with Lou Reed and Gang of Four, but I do want to see Spiritualized... However, I don't really care for Siouxie without the Banshees, or the Buzzcocks, nor do I care for Sly and the Family Stone or The Pogues. Beck and AC/DC sway my vote in favor of Cascade, though it was a close decision (the Eno/Byrne collaboration intrigues me, but at the same time doesn't really give me much to go on in terms of being able to relate to the material).
    Goes to: Cascade

Rest of The Lineups: The things that pique my eye at Goldcoast are Cat Power, the Magnetic Fields, Asobi Seksu, Midnight Juggernauts, Hooverphonic, Caribou, Thomas Bangaltier, The Decemberists, Mogwai, Andrew Bird, Chromeo, Diplo, JARVIS COCKER, Spoon, M83, Stars, Okkervil River. The things that pique my eye at Cascade are JUNIOR BOYS (brownie points!), The Avalanches, The Black Keys, Gogol Bordello, Caribou, Grinderman (awww... Why no Bad Seeds?), Hot Chip, Chromeo, Devo (for kicks), Goldfrapp, Spoon, Fiona Apple, Royksopp, Feist, The National, Aesop Rock, Andrew Bird, The New Pornographers, Okkervil River, Iron & Wine, Diplo, Belle & Sebastian, EITS, Cat Power, Lemon Jelly, Tricky, Doves, MSTRKRFT, Ghostland Observatory
    Goes To: Cascade

Why, God, Why?: For Goldcoast, I'm not too huge on Modeselektor, listened to those guys and didn't see what the big hub-bub was all about. M.I.A. falls into that catagory, and Neko Case is nothing with the New Pornographers. Cascade has a few more problems, because, fuck yes I love the alternative to Prince being AC/DC (or at least AC/DC --> Prince) but I don't want to be forced to sit through the Please-Oh-God-Nos (YYY) to see AC/DC (granted, Beck could be before AC/DC instead, but who knows?). M.I.A. rears her ugly-fucking aviator glasses (and erstwhile talented) sporting head, again, Wolfmother makes me groan (especially WM --> YYY --> AC/DC), Animal Collective is just COMPLETELY not my cup of tea, and though Lil' Wayne is avoidable, he is still an incredible eyesore.
    Least Painful Goes To: Goldcoast

Best Overall Day: Cascade's 2nd day is incredible. Minus the abomination that is Animal Collective, there is a set of 11 bands I would love to see (and I'd miss out on some, but this is rating individual days here!). It's funny that I'm giving this to a lineup that has David Bowie as it's headliner, since you all know I'm such a fucking staunch anti-Bowie, Bowie hater... Or at least that's the image perpetuated by the twats-that-be. Regardless, Cascade's 2nd day (featuring Portishead, no less) caught my eye immediately, because while it isn't very bottom heavy (a lot of not well known latin acts), it doesn't feature any eye-gougingly bad mid-card acts, and I'm still on the fence about the Knife.
    Goes to: Cascade

Overall: Well, I just tend to like Cascade more. Fuck YES it is polarizing, what with having a handful of god-awful acts, but I figure that will (hopefully) give me the chance to see the bands I want. Plus... fucking Junior Boys, man, that'd get me to go to day 1 alone.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

Gogol Bordello is billed too low though.

More bands I like: Cascade has about 30 bands I want to see or am curious to check out, a bit more than Goldcoast.
Consistency: both are solid, so draw
Headliners: both have Bowie! But I have to go with Cascade for Radiohead and Prince. I want to check out The Stooges and am absolutely dying to see NMH, but I think both would be better as subheadliners. So Cascade.
Sub-headliners: AC/DC made me throw up in my mouth a little, but I gotta go with Cascade because of Portishead. I'm surprised Spiritualized is billed so high.
Undercard: Both have some great acts, but Goldcoast has the most unique acts. Charlotte Gainsbourg, Thomas Bangalter? Why has nobody else listed them yet?
Reunion: Goldcoast has the best reunion so far, while Cascade has no reunion at all.
Venue: I really want to go to Australia, but Texas has barbecue and would be way cheaper. draw.
    Diversity: draw
Wild card 1: Goldcoast has Asobi Seksu.
Wild card 2: Goldcoast has Charlotte Gainsbourg (but no Air? WTF?)
Wild card 3: Goldcoast has JARVIS COCKER.
Wild card 14: Cascade has those intriguing art and film exhibits listed on the poster. A very creative touch. I really wish I had thought of this.

My winner: probably the toughest decision I've had to make so far. Both festivals are incredible and unique in their own ways and attending either would be truly epic, but I have to go with Goldcoast. It's very, very close, though.
