The Editors, The Good the Bad and the Queen, The Meat Puppets, Fountains of Wayne, The Stooges, Kings of Leon off the top of my head released albums that were not up to what they could have been.

I wish I could be as resolute as you about how great this year was in music.
I had to narrow my list down from about 50 releases that I thought were worthy. All the ones you listed above weren't very good (and The Stooges album was so terrible that I had blocked it from my mind until your post) but there were many amazing releases, including quite a few astounding debuts. The new music this year leaves me hopeful for the future of music.

Frank, shut it. Like I said, nobody is causing a fuss over it, so drop it. I think there is more fuss over the stuff that came out this year that originally came out in the U.K. in 2006.

I'll remember that the next time you get your panties in a bunch over less than nothing.

Personally, I don't care about 2006 UK releases and EPs being in these lists and all. But it's just funny as hell seeing that in your list, because you're always the first to "correct" everyone in the most pompous way possible for less than that.

I don't see why an EP should't be considered

Hmmm... I would have gathered that the National would win. I'll add to your gambit and say that, regardless, we'll end up with a 1-2 punch of In Rainbows and Boxer.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * The Flaming Lips perform The Soft Bulletin - Bimbo's 365 in SF on February 21st
    * Jeff Mangum - Fox Theater in Oakland on April 10th

Five Years of Coachella Glory: 2007 - 2011 (skipping 2012, maybe I'll be back in '13?)

I'm pretty sure on my list it'll be In Rainbows, Alive 2007, and Neon Bible. Which is about right.

When are we going to do top songs of 2007? I want to mention Mason Jennings' cover of "The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol" (from the I'm Not There soundtrack) as being particularly awesome.

i get the argument, but, for me, i don't register any album that isn't officially released in the U.S. it sounds backwards maybe, but this is how i've operated without a computer. i also like the decision to include Jan. 1. that gives me some time to digest "In Rainbows" when i buy it.
