i saw on a stp site that a fan heard on a san diego radio station that the goldenvoice people are trying to reunite stp for the 2008 coachella. its just a rumor and i didnt hear it myself, but hey, this is a rumors section, so i thought id post it and see if anybody else had heard anything.

I wouldn't mind it. Although as far as bands from the grunge era go, they were pretty second-tier. I assume that if this were true, they would be competing for a headlining spot. I'd take Soundgarden or Pearl Jam over them in a heartbeat.

When asked in a late 2006 interview whether he foresaw Stone Temple Pilots ever getting back together, Scott Weiland cryptically commented: "Every shelf needs two bookends." Robert DeLeo also commented regarding an STP reunion around the same time saying: "I never say never. I don't think there was ever a specific end to Stone Temple Pilots."

Army of Anyone went on indefinite hiatus in May after Richard Patrick announced he was working on a new Filter album, meaning that the band could possibly be defunct. Tensions have also been arising in Velvet Revolver, with drummer Matt Sorum discussing in Rolling Stone how although he and Scott happen to wear similar wristbands it is simply coincidence since he is not "homosexual". He also stated that: "I don't think the world's fucking biding their time, waiting for Stone Temple Pilots to reform." Sorum said that earlier this year when tensions were arising between the band he feared that Scott Weiland would leave Velvet Revolver to reform Stone Temple Pilots due to his reconciliation with the DeLeo brothers, but so far that appears to be unfounded.

From wikipedia...so I guess signs point to that this rumor has some substance.

I'm buying this rumor, it makes a lot of sense to me the more I think about it. First off I think we've all had a hard time coming up with three viable headliners for Coachella, second it fulfills the kind of harder rock headliner that they've been doing for the past three years. Plus they are a Socal band and it appears that if GV pursued the reunion they could get it.

Hm, I suppose thats not too bad. I agree that they are indeed second tier but other than that I can't say I'd want to see them ever.

I am sure plenty other bands will bury the name on the bill for those who would be 100 percent against this rumor.

I saw them here in Miami in 02 and they were great.

i saw them at irvine meadows back in the day before corporate whoring of venues became the norm. the bass was way too loud that night and once the show was over and the house lights came on you could see piles of puke everywhere. this was back when i was a kid and didn't drink and even i was nauseous pretty much the entire performance. i think they almost hit the elusive "brown note". it was a good show overall. i def. don't see them as coachella headline worthy, though.
