Attending a wake/funeral of a friend of 21 years today. Still hasn't really hit me yet. We haven't hung out much the 2 years after I kicked him out of my house for not paying rent for 2 consecutive months. Still a good dude and hate to see him gone

Kind of a buzzkill, but it was better that he did it when he did instead of having it drag on and being unhappy.
At least he waited until after Coachella! That was considerate. Sorry about that, though. It still sucks.

Well, I kinda saw it coming, so I spent Coachella wondering if he was going to break up with me. It is what it is.

In other news, just got an email saying another former coworker of mine passed away. That makes 3 this year, already.

I had a film crit class for which the final was 12 papers - 9 2-page minimum papers discussing the viewpoints from the 9 chapters of some book and relating them to films we watched in the class, and 3 much longer papers that included critically dissecting films written in the unique voice of a certain critical philosophy. We had 2 weeks to do it. I ended turning in something like 40 pages and timed it out to have taken me a total of 30 hours to complete. it was a fucking nightmare.

This is how I spent my last 2 years of college. Good times. Luckily I was able to come to class, watch the movies, read the books, and skip the lectures.

Writing papers instead of having a final is awesome. I lucked out some years and mostly had final/term papers instead of exams, while everyone was cramming for finals for the last two weeks of the term, I was playing video games all day. 10 pages is nothing, wait until you're in upper level classes. During my last few semesters, I had profs who required you to get your 30+ page papers BOUND.

a couple days ago i rear-ended a guy on my way home from work as traffic came to a slam-on-your-breaks kind of hault. he was really nice, said he was fine, and there was hardly a scratch on his truck. my car was a bit fucked, but by the time i hit him i had braked a lot & was truly not going very fast. i told him we didn't need to call the police and he even ranted to me about how someone took advantage of him once when he hit someone and didn't get the police involved. SURE ENOUGH, i get an email from my insurance that he claimed an injury in this little fender bender--even though i incessantly asked him if he was okay and he reassured me that i had 'only tapped his truck'. jesus christ, no one can be trusted. lesson learned, always call the police cause people suck.

took this photo a few weeks ago at The Salton Sea and having a devil-of-a-time identifying the type of species it is. Want to print out a color glossy picture and accompany it with a letter to Grandma (not the one here), who is bird lover. From what I've read it's not an Egret, Crane, or Stork...at least not a pure one. Think it's a morph.

No idea, but here's a list of the known species at Salton Sea. Might be able to narrow it down by season and habitat: http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/b.../r1/salton.htm

That sure looks like a perfectly ordinary egret to me. White feathers, yellow bill, black legs. They do fold their necks up when they fly, but they stretch them out when they're just standing there, like that one.

And why is this in the Bad Mood Thread? Did seeing the Salton Sea depress you?

I think it's closest to a "Great Egret", although the comparison photos on this site don't really mesh: http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/30/...eat_Egret.aspx . Most of these look shorter and stumped over, while mine was so statuesque and slender (appeared to be about four feet tall). Maybe it was a model.

No, they just look like that. More pics from the Salton Sea:

he may have been fine at the moment, sometimes injuries can come on well after the incident occurred. you could have also taken pics and video of the scene yourself for evidence, get him on film saying no worries and everything was fine. but still, he could have been hurt, just not known it yet due to adrenaline, etc.

yeah :/ i guess i just don't know which is frustrating. the only thing it could possibly be is whiplash but i honestly REALLY do not think the speed/severity of the accident was at that level. i definitely should've taken pics/video considering he told me he was fine at least 5 times & that he wasn't even going to take his truck to get fixed because that's how minor he thought it was. i'm more just mad at myself for getting too frazzled in these scenarios to prepare for all possible outcomes. whatever, reality is lame. take me back to coachella.

I was in a great mood when I woke up today. Then I heard MCA died which upset me, but seeing my family made me forget it about that fairly quick. One of my best friends just called me and told me the Marine Corps isn't going to let him early like he thought, but instead he his being forced to deploy again. He and I both understand this is what he signed on for, but it is still scary and kinda sucks.

It's been there from the beginning.. the weak Britpop headliners Friday; the rumors that DP was gonna play, that it was a done deal, then all of a sudden 'oops, no, not gonna happen'; and now the new album. It's all so obvious.

also, after going months and months with no incidents at all, today I found two scorpions in my house. Not at the same time or in the same place. one can be random, but two is a trend. I will sleep fitfully tonight.

I'm more concerned that someone has poured a shit ton of blue paint into our Salton Sea because it's never looked that blue... Hell, it's never actually looked like water to be quite honest.

Come to think of it, maybe that's why there's an uncertainty over what this bird is called... Maybe it's neck wasn't that way before it landed at the sea?

Another Daft Punk album, great guys, so glad you spent years making this:

Now would you please shut the fuck up with this boring crap and get back to mixing these tracks in with the rest of your catalog into something actually interesting, build a goddamn LED spaceship and get the fuck back on the road.

I'm sorry, Tom, but two scorpions don't make things trendy, they make more scorpions... Sweet Dreams!
