Liars--a good birthday band?

This year for my birthday I was planning to invite a bunch of friends to a concert in the LA area to celebrate. Liars are around that time, with No Age. I think they're a brilliant band, but I've never seen them live, so I can only guess at what their live show is like. Keep in mind that none of my friends are quite as adventurous musically as I am. So do you guys think this one would go over well? I might just wait and see who else is playing around then. But Liars are great.

I've not seen Liars, but my friends who have said they were extremely intense and wild.
No Age put on a great show. They're much louder and more energetic onstage.

I myself am definitely going, I was just unsure if they would appeal to people who might not be interested in music that's somewhat avant-garde. But fuck that, people need to be more adventurous. So LIARS BIRTHDAY

Unless your friends like really loud feedback-y music, it's not fully polite to put them through a Liars show on your behalf.

Hmmm...many of my friends are obsessed with Tool, I dunno if they would be down for Liars. I might just look for a download link of Drum's Not Dead when I Send out the facebook invite so people who are curious can see what they're getting into.

Speaking of which, does anyone have a link they can PM me? Not having any luck finding one.

Liars gets pretty monotonous and blah for me.

I don't know if Liars are the best band to try this with. I took some musically unadventurous friends to see the Fiery Furnaces when they were in town and they really had a shitty time.

Maybe if you all get really trashed or something else that would entertain them aside from the music, but otherwise - I can't imagine this going well.

When I brought two people with me to see Interpol, The Liars opened for them, of course I was excited because they are a good band...On record.

The other two people felt they were one of the worst live bands they had ever seen and were about ready to leave and give up their spots up front (GA show). I was not too fond of them live either, but because I particularly like their recorded material I chose to stay. I would think twice when attempting to introduce friends to a band like The Liars.

It's not that they won't, I just don't want to ask them to. However, St. Vincent is playing the weekend before Liars, that will probably do quite nicely.

If they're much more Tool obsessed, you might want to find a little heavier act another night, and then go to Liars by yourself.

Most of them aren't so Tool obsessed as to completely shut off all music, Tool is just a band they all seem to agree on. But I already decided on Built to Spill the day after Liars, I can't imagine the person who wouldn't at least kind of like them.
