Yeah, if I would have seen those ones - or 16 Shells, or ESPECIALLY Shore Leave - on the setlist, I'd be even more mad over having missed it.

i was at the show last night. tom was fantastic- two solid hours of great music and hilarious cantankerous rambling. the orpheum is also a truly gorgeous venue. as for phoenix in june, however... like visiting the surface of the sun.

seriously-- it seemed like at least half the audience at the first phoenix show had flown in from LA. our entire hotel (2 blocks from the venue) was filled with waits concert-goers.

I agree. If he came to atleast any one of Vancouver, Seattle or Portland, I would have been there in a second.

The sad part is that, unlike with other bands, we can't say for sure that he'll do another leg of this tour later in the year and hit our towns. This might be all he does for God-knows-how-long.

If his records didn't indicate it already, it is clear that Tom Waits does whatever the fuck he wants.

If the fact that he mapped out his entire Glitter and Doom tour based on a constellation in the sky didn't indicate it already, it is clear that Tom Waits does indeed, do whatever the fuck he wants.

There must be a constellation that would just make one big loop around Southern California.

Orions Belt would be a good one, cause it could start up in Seattle, come down to L.A. and he would play Canada also.

I went to the El Paso one, naturally. It was awesome. Absolutely nothing played from Small Change though... Kind of a let down for me. The mayor gave him a key to the city. It was kind of cool. The music was great.

The drummer? My friend flashed him when they were both 11 in Portland. Good story.

Can someone suggest some a good place to start when it comes to Tom Waits? I've always liked him but never really sought out his music.

I would say Rain Dogs or Mule Variations.
