I just DLed a copy. It sounds drastically different. The first song is a poppy, vocal led track. I like it.
this album is incredibly different than i would have ever expected...it honestly reminds me of Jamiroquai at times...Jon Brion at others. The best part about it is how he's able to incorporate his old style into it all. I don't know what to think about it yet.
if you listened to his last solo album you should have totally expected this one. There were some poppish rock songs on it, and the rest were not all that hip hop
i hate most of the vocals on this new album. some solid tracks, though. it'll require a few more listens before i have an opinion...
*based upon tedious fact checking.
i will download tonight..

I concur with the Jon Brion comparison. It's really mellow, but not bad. Definitely not hip hop. Who is the vocalist?
get out
I also saw him sing in '05 to at the Independent in SF. At the end of his set he did his little tune with just him singing while playing a guitar.
The sport-coaters loved it.
But how did the fedora crowd respond?
