    Default During Winter Break...

Given the misconception that I hate Radiohead with the white-hot intensity of 10,000 suns, and inspired by John's 24-hour Cure listening day he did (although lord knows why... I think he wanted to kill himself by the end of that day), I'm going to, upon returning home for Winter Break (after the 14th) dedicate 24 hours to listening to nothing but Radiohead and Thom Yorke's solo disc.

    Yeah.

So, I need an appropriate mix or two, and probably a link to a megaupload file with their entire collection.

And, like John, I'll give periodic updates over the course of the day. I figure it'll be one of the days before my HS friends get out of school so I'll have pretty much nothing to do at home.

And thanks for you help... The one or two of you who'll have something constructive to say, or link to post.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

    YES

This is the kind of Radiohead hater/non-fan/enemy combatant I can get behind.

Of course, the only thing I have ever requested on your behalf is to have a credible opinion about them. Listen to them, watch them live...If your still not a fan afterwards than you will never be and that's perfectly fine with me.

    Okay.

I think I've mentioned this on here before, but I do possess this crazy mash-up that someone did, taking "Analyse" and layering Jeff Buckley's a capella "You and I" over it. The end, with them dueling, is really amazing. And if anyone wants it, let me know.

Yeah that one is alright, theres a few other mash ups that are a bit cooler. The High and Dry mixed with Marvin Gaye I enjoy a bit.

Ill get to work on this and pm you it all.

Also the Karma Police mashed up with '' A Day In The Life'' by the Beatles is one of my faves.

*nods* Yeah I know. Jeff Buckley. I even read that they saw him live while recording The Bends and it greatly influenced his delivery. Also there's the fact that all 5 members are avowed Smiths fans. There's no denying that they themselves have terrific influences, heh.

EDIT: Straight from wikipedia: "The lead vocal take of "Fake Plastic Trees" was recorded immediately after the band had seen Jeff Buckley playing upstairs at The Garage in London."

I remembered the webcast they did and watched Radiohead's cover of "The Headmaster Ritual" and "Ceremony" (The Smiths and Joy Division/New Order, 2 of my favorite bands) and they were brilliant.

I do think though, given what I've heard of Radiohead, that it would have been interesting to hear a cover of "Death of a Disco Dancer" (since it, in of itself, contains a reference to "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles), especially to hear what Thom and company would do to the piano part in the end.

man, winter break is one of the things that I miss about college. You finish finals, then you just get to sit around doing whatever you want for three fucking weeks with basically no responsibilities.

in my experience, it's not very easy to convert someone who doesn't like radiohead. i tried persistently to convert one friend of mine and had zero success. i think the problem was that that friend would absolutely never get remotely sad or depressed, and the great thing about radiohead is that combination of sad and depressing with melodic and beautiful. if you're not open to listening to sad/depressing music, then you're probably not going to be able to appreciate it.

If you're just getting into radiohead, I would stay away from thom yorke's solo stuff. You should probably start with their most accessible, mainstream songs, like Creep, High and Dry, Karma Police, Let Down, House of Cards, There There, Optimistic, Fake Plastic Trees, Gagging Order, Street Spirit...

it took me two years to get my Dad into them, but he's gonna go to a show with me when they tour.

as far as winter break goes, I certainly am not sitting around doing nothing. I sitll have to work 30 hours a week, work on my thesis, and get grad school applications finished. but it's nice to work around less structure.

Yeah, winter break isn't much of a break for me, either. Preparing for my qualifying exams and planning a class. And to add insult to injury, I'll be doing both in Ohio.

Tell me about it. I never could get any of my ex girlfriends into Autechre or Gescom. They got scared.

But good luck Passive. I don't expect you to be a die hard Radiohead fan after winter break, but at least I guess you will have some more respect and appreciation for the band.
