Default Where have you been all my life??

I just found portishead. I thought i new what I wanted to type, but now thinking about it, I'm lost.

Every once in a while i'll check out a band that I see pop up on the board a lot. Today it was portisehead due to the "of ur into portisehead" thread. I cannot believe what i have been mising. I thuroughly enjoy the way that woman sings, it's unbelievable. So as to not go on babbling, what else am I missing? Seriously. i know some of you aren't too fond of me, but this is music I'm speaking of. When you think of Portishead, what else do you think of? Recommend please.

I'd like to add that I didn't like Arcade Fire.

There is a lot of music I haven't gotten around to checking out. I've pretty close to secluded myself for a long time, I have the 90's to thank for that. This board is bringing me back out though, i ike it.

As soon as she started to sing I was just thinking WOW!! This is fucking awesome. Then I thought, well is it just this song? Nope. the entire album was soooo good. I must have more.

You can check out all of Lamb. Fear of Fours is pretty awesome. Shit, I just realized I don't have any Lamb on my ipod since our itunes spazzed out and deleted all my songs. I forgot to add those albums.

no prob, you listed all the alnums I would have listed except you left off

Protection, Danny the Dog, and Blue Lines from the Massive Attack list.

As for OMR and Telepopmusik check out

    OMR - Superheroes Crash

and Telepopmusik - "Angels Milk" and "Genetic World"

    ...Angels Milk is better.

I own all MA but Blue Lines... Protection is good, but I feel like the two most stellar tracks can be found on Collected (the title track and "Karmacoma"), whereas Danny the Dog... well, I dunno, the absence of lyrics bothers me.

Anyway, I'll check out those albums, man.

There are a lot of good recommendations in here already, so I will just give you one. It is a little known group called Spylab.

At times, they sound like a Portishead ripoff (in a good way), but they are amazing. Like their name would have you believe, the music would be excellent background music for a thriller spy movie. Some of the songs feature vocals (and they have the great female vocalist that steps in the Beth Gibbons role for those), while others are just instrumentals and/or samples. It was released on the now defunct Guidance Recordings label, so you won't find it in many stores. I cannot recommend this album more highly. Hit me up if any of you want me to post it.

I acquired Massive Attack - 100th Window and Protection. I've listened to 1ooth window and enjoyed it. Definatley gonna have that on my playlist for work. Tomorrow I will be listening to Protection while trying to get Lamb and or Morcheeba. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm still tripping on Portishead. Simply amazing.

Ahem. MEZZANINE. You need Mezzanine by Massive Attack. 100th Window comes close second.

Mezzanine is a good suggestion. It would be a logical follow-up to Portishead.

Heh, I say give them another year to recoup before playing again (and hopefully headlining). Then again, if hundreds of people here want to clamor for Radiohead/Portishead, I say GV do one better and have Massive Attack/Portishead for Coachella 08.

And I second the necessity of Mezzanine... Kinda why I have it a higher rating than the other MA discs I suggested.

    Mezzanine is a classic.

If you are just discovering Portishead, you HAVE TO get Portishead: Live at Roseland, also known as PNYC. The DVD is great and has some neat extra stuff, but the CD is just awesome.

Also, another excellent record along the vibe of all these recommendations is ESTHERO "BREATH FROM ANOTHER" that came out in 1997 or so. Such a gem.
I am going to get so blown to Cypress Hill while they play.

Nando's right, PNYC is the master thesis as to why Portishead is a must at Coachella 08.
