A question for people who know better than I: A family member of mine was crew for Owen at one of his shows, and sent me a CD of his (He Poos Clouds) that he gave them. After listening to it, it sounds like I would like him in person, but I felt like the CD itself was just horrendously mixed... you could hardly hear his vocals at all. Can anyone back me up on this?
I can't say I've ever really thought about this, but I guess you have a point - the strings are mixed a bit a high on the record.
But nothing crazy either, Thom Yorke's got away with murder in this respect on Kid A and Amnesiac.
It might have something to do with what you're using to listen to it, it sounds pretty damn good on my Chocolate Rain headphones.
I don't know how to embed video's....

Saw FF a few weeks ago at Nectar here in Seattle...I wholeheartedly agree that they (he) need an invite. Speaking of Nectar, I also saw Jens Lekman and The Besnard Lakes there, and they need invites too.
i thought owen said that he hadn't been contacted and he was pretty sure he wouldn't be interested if they did.
*based upon tedious fact checking.
Nectar is pretty damned sweet if you ask me. It reminds me of the Knitting Factory and the Troubadour, my two favorite WH venues. I read in the Weekly or something that they got a new booking manager who used to work for the Showbox or something, so they've been getting great acts. Saw Busdriver there last week, that was a great show too. I just moved up here in Sep, and Nectar is literally 1 block away from me, so I've been going there a lot more often then, say, Crocodile or Neumos. And the Lekman show, I'm afraid to say, was fucking great.
ya he is no Alice Cooper, but it's not like he is whispering.
I didn't check out Andrew Bird last year, but I'd have to assume Owen is of the same variety. I saw him at an outdoor fest this summer and it was almost as amazing as seeing him in a theatre. He would be more than fine playing the Gobi.
I've seen Final Fantasy twice and he is awesome.
I saw him at Little Pedro's in Downtown LA.
And I saw him open for Bloc Party at the Wiltern.
I liked him at the Wiltern because he did an overhead projector presentation and the sound was better.
Who can't love someone doing the schools of magic in D&D while they are playing, pretty original.
And he would be awesome at Coachella!
Fuck you gv....from Owen:
I really wanted to play Coachella! Everything was
looking good and then they said no at the last minute.
They came to the show in L.A. and were really
positive, but I guess they changed their mind. I feel
kind of humiliated, but what can I do?
that really sucks...change your fucking minds!!!!!!!!!!
the 'fuck you' is from me
the message is from him
For all the great things goldenvoice does, they make some really inexplicable decisions, and this would definitely one of them. Rather mean, too. Final Fantasy would own the Gobi tent early in the day before it gets too noisy and crowded.
On another note, you know how the embarrassing Tiesto played this year and people said "why him and not so and so?" I dunno about Underworld and The Prodigy, but I do know that The Chemical Bros and Fatboy Slim weren't invited.
Boourns, you are so right. He would captivate the Gobi audience, people would be going to buy his discs straight away.
As he said, life goes on. Just really sucks that they could've had him if they wanted.
this sucks hardcore.
He could totally replace 2008's James Blunt or Thrice for less than half the price!
Saw Final Fantasy on Tuesday, and the show rocked my brains out. That's a damn shame, Coachella.
Goldenvoice
