Default Dum Dum Girls Announce New Album, Tour

They've earned their own thread. This makes me happy (and hard). 2012 is their year to blow up....watch.

Dum Dum Girls already have one release on the books for 2011-- the EP He Gets Me High, which followed last year's debut LP I Will Be. Now they've got another one coming up: Only in Dreams, the jangle-rockers' sophomore full-length, which will drop September 27 on Sub Pop. The album was produced by studio vet and previous collaborator Richard Gottehrer, along with the Raveonettes' Sune Rose Wagner; the band recorded it in Queens of the Stone Age main man Josh Homme's Pink Duck Studios. Check out the tracklist below, as well as the band's fall tour schedule and the video for He Gets Me High's title track.

    Only in Dreams:

    01 Always Looking
    02 Bedroom Eyes
    03 Just a Creep
    04 In My Head
    05 Heartbeat
    06 Caught in One
    07 Coming Down
    08 Wasted Away
    09 Teardrops on My Pillow
    10 Hold Your Hand
    Love this new jam!

I endorse. They're the best of this subgenre and the new song is great. Dee Dee earns the Hope Sandoval comparisons with her vocal on that track.

Dee Dee is actually Kristin Gundred, and why she ever left Grand Ole Party is beyond me...

Only in Dreams leaked today (albeit a webrip). It's so fucking good. I can't wait to hear a legit rip of this. Dee Dee's songwriting has really taken a step forward; she's digging deep within herself this time around. It doesn't quite have the hooks that I Will Be did, but it's still going to kill live and will add nicely to their repertoire. I expect them to be festival whores in 2012 (which I will gladly be subjected to).

I pre-ordered the album on Monday, which came with a link from SubPop to stream it from their website (probably where the web rip came from), and I haven't been able to stop listening to it. The production is really cleaned up and Dee Dee's vocals are just amazing - they seem much more assured and forceful, and the lack of distortion in the tracks themselves really give them a chance to come out to the forefront. I know it's still early, but I can very easily see this album making it into my Top 20, if not Top 10, for the year.

Indie cred points: I saw the first Dum Dum girls show. I haven't seen her since though, and it's entirely different members now. How are they as a live act?

One of my favorite live acts around right now. Between the great jams, fine musicianship and the utter eye candy up there....what's not to like? Seriously, they bring it.

EDIT: one other thing that I like about them is that they use a lot of vintage gear. This not only helps shape their retro sound, but it adds to their overall look (which, for sure, is heavily curated by Dee Dee). She must have some dough because that gear is pricey!

Latest single from Only in Dreams, the absolutely lovely "Bedroom Eyes."

I'd really like to go to the in-store, but I'm not sure how early I'd have to get there to get in. I'm having an early dinner with some friends in Echo Park and thought I could go by once I'm done, but would this be something I'd need to get there early for?

her and her husband run Zoo Music, a record label out of San Diego. They have an arsenal of gear, and Brandon has a good amount of money as well.

I doubt it. You'll probably be able to walk in right at 7 and get fairly close.

I know how much Geezr luvz it when i post in this thread....

Before Kristin Gundred was calling herself Dee Dee and making fuzzy girl-group garage-pop as Dum Dum Girls, she sang and drummed in San Diego band Grand Ole Party. They released one album, Humanimals, before breaking up in 2009. But they had recorded a second one, titled Under Our Skin, with producer Ben H. Allen (of Animal Collective, Deerhunter, and Gnarls Barkley renown), in 2009. On August 30, DH will finally release that album.

    Under Our Skin:

    01 All Night
    02 New Medication
    03 Fire in My Head
    04 Charlie Girl
    05 Dreamaway
06 Valley of the Dead Ends
    07 You Can't See Me
    08 Fever
    09 Cat Fight
    10 Your World
    11 Kiss of Death
    12 Under Our Skin
and my present to all of you.....

Old news, man. I already dropped that in the leaks thread over a month ago. It's pretty solid.

Speaking of these fine ladies...I saw them last Tues at Great American up here. Dragged a few people with me. They liked it, but felt that more smiling and general fun-having by the ladies up front would have made for a better show. I am pretty sure their seriousness is part of their aesthetic, but I have to agree. These ladies are all lovely, so what's the harm in showing some pearly whites every now and then for fux sake!

(as for the music...they nailed it and the new stuff kills)

Even better is SISU, the drummer's band. Dark, hypnotic blend of synthpop, krautrock, shoegaze, etc.
9/10 Swans @ Roxy, 9/18 Neutral Milk Hotel & Daniel Johnston @ Hollywood Bowl, 9/19 Tokimonsta @ El Rey, 9/30 Cibo Matto @ the Roxy, 10/3-4 Desert Stars, 10/9 Zola Jesus @ El Rey, 10/16 Massive Attack @ Greek Theater, 10/22-25 CMJ, 10/26 Asobi Seksu & Slowdive @ Royale

I went to a Dum Dum Girls show at Pappy's about a year and a half ago with SISU and Young Prisms opening, and SISU left the biggest impression that night.

The new album should be called True Snooze. It's pretty forgettable album.I will still go see them at The Independent because I enjoyed their past albums plus Blouse opening makes it a great double bill.
