Thank you very much J. I'm going to check out Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot tomorrow. Also I found this little tidbit from a Sparklehorse fansite: "Before Mark got signed by Capitol, he worked as a chimney-sweep and a house-painter. However after his then manager played what he had recorded to an A&R girl at Capitol, the A&R girl played it to the president of the company, and Sparklehorse was signed without having to play a showcase."
Classic record deal story.

I just saw your board handle in another thread for the first time and got really excited. I find so few Damien Rice fans in my life. It's weird. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the board. My name is Tessa and will be happy to show you around.I'm VERY jealous.![]()
Yeah I've noticed that no one really talks about Damien Rice on the message boards (well besides this one) and I thought that was strange, considering how amazing his music is. But I'm glad there's someone else here that is much of a fan as I am! oh and my name is Marie, nice to meet you![]()

This looks kind of interesting for the movie people out there:
John Williams & The Los Angeles Philharmonic
Monday, March 5, 2007, 8:00 PM
Walt Disney Concert Hall
"Artists:
John Williams, conductor; Martin Scorsese, special guest; Steven Spielberg
Program:John Williams, the acknowledged master of film music, will present a tribute to Bernard Herrmann, hosted by Martin Scorsese, as well as a look inside the legendary Spielberg/Williams collaboration, hosted by Steven Spielberg. You'll see classic film clips on a big screen and hear some of the most memorable moments in film music, played live by the Philharmonic. The artists will even demonstrate "Techniques of Film Scoring" by running a clip from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade without music, and then, after discussing the process of "spotting," running the scene again, accompanied live by the orchestra."

3/9 - Razorlight (El Rey)
3/11 - The Mountain Goats (El Rey)
Devachan, that event is tempting for Scorsese's presence alone. I'm not too big of a John Williams fan, although he's undeniable done some of the most memorable scores in history.
Now, if the Hollywood Bowl would hurry the fuck up and book Clint Mansell/Kronos Quartet/Mogwai as part of their film score series, then we'd be in business.
Nothing certain, but:
02/14 David J
02/16 Portastatic (Camera Obscura headlining, eh)
02/28 Sebadoh
03/01 Lyrics Born, The Coup
03/08 Gene Loves Jezebel
03/09 Green Milk from Planet Orange
03/10 Loop!Station
03/23 the Apples in Stereo
03/24 Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
03/28 Calla
04/06 The Gossip
04/07 The Killers (*shame*)
04/13 Cowboy Junkies
04/20 Heavenly States
04/22 Xiu Xiu
04/23 Blonde Redhead
It's weird that there aren't dates announced yet... The SF show is on a Friday, at a smallish club (The Independent), tix are $15. :>
I'm only thinking of giving Calla a try because it's at a small place near home and it's cheap and won't sell out. Everyone will be down the street at TV on the Radio. Ugh.
Probably (sold out), I am just not into them and don't like the venue they're playing at (Fillmore).
There are two venues in SF that are difficult for me to go to (Fillmore and Bimbo's). There's nothing *wrong* with either really, but I end up skipping almost every show at these places. I don't really like venues packed with hundreds of people. Why am I going to Coachella? *heh*
the stanton warriors killed it friday night!!! normally myst sucks, but it's more fun with all your friends and killer music
also, i was very disappointed R.A.W. flaked on his fucking flight to phoenix saturday for remedy 3. not fucking cool, only reason i went!!! still had a good time though, nick synergy and pac d were awesome!!!
Just got tickets to see The Raveonettes @ The Mercury Lounge in NYC which is pretty tiny...so that should be awesome
