this is a good read with respect to that.
Blink will always hold a special place in my heart. First time I saw them was in maybe '94 at the Showcase Theater in Corona, playing second on a bill of 5 bands. Had a lot of good times at their shows, eventually ending up working for 98 Posse(Holla, Psychic Friend)and co-promoting a bunch of their shows with Goldenvoice. Lots of crazy backstage antics, shots before taking the stage, etc. Was at a disneyland grad night with my friends band, the Aquabats, the night after Travis left them to join Blink. He went from making little money to his first show with the Blink being a girl's private bday party in Utah and making something like $16,000 for the show. Insane. So many great memories, may just have to go and relive a few.

Gahhhh! Warpaint + James Blake @ Wiltern & Hollywood Forever. Very jealous...
ps Psychic Ills will be the opener for Mazzy Star dates!
I mean, regardless of whether you like them or not, they're definitely iconic of a certain time. Blink was one of the biggest bands in the world for a period of time, I don't think THAT term is incorrect for them, although it definitely is for that album.
Well, no, I think Dude Ranch could certainly become described as such. It was a behemoth hit that took punk rock into the hands of even broader audiences than The Offspring or Green Day had done before, and set the stage for countless impersonators and basically started a whole new wave of pop punk. However one might feel about them critically is an entirely different story, but to deny the impact that band has had is silly (especially from somebody who is borderline fetishistic about bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, and Muse).
EDIT: Written at the same time as Bryan.
How are we seriously discussing the merits of Blink-182?
Creed was one of, if not THE, biggest band in america for about four years and spawned a batch of imitators that kept the constipated trend going well into the 00s. Are they iconic, too?
