Looks like Andrew Stockdale canceled his own dates. Wolfmother is probably just him and his backing band under the original name. lol

Pretty sure anyone can walk into the lawn. Haven't been to that venue in years but that's how it was whenever I used to go.

Has anyone been to one of those free shows at Pershing Square? I'll be going tonight for Psychedelic Furs, just trying to get an idea of what time they'll be on. The event is from 8-10 and there's an opener. I imagine they'll go on around 9-9:15?

In celebration of the new limited-edition Dinosaur Jr./Skullcandy headphones, J Mascis plays a solo set at Amoeba, Hollywood. The headphones and special 7" colored vinyl of unreleased tracks, "The Only Other Way" and "The Lung (live)", will be available to purchase and have it signed by J Mascis himself after the show at Amoeba on Sunday, July 14th (while they last).
What are J Mascis solo shows like? Does he play much Dinosaur stuff, and if so is it worth hearing acoustic?

The one time I saw him solo at the Echo a few years ago he only played his solo material. But he was touring to promote an album, and that album was great.

Legends of the Summer was good fun. Just under 3 hours long. Jay Z could have done with a bit more stage time, though. They did the same amount of tracks solo, but all the JT songs were twice as long (and thrice as dull).

Apparently 2 people got stabbed during the set. No word yet if it was with Aidz Needles.

Rodrigo y Gabriela were great. Expected as much. I had thought they'd do something with the LA Phil like last time around, but it was mostly just the two of them this time. Awesome they choose a little Tool for the pre-set music (The Pot) and then had a huge Alex Gray mural on screen for one segment of their performance.

For me though, tonight was about Devotchka. I could watch these guys for hours. Nick Urata's range and approach along with the diverse styles they tackle is really something else. So glad to see them again.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are playing Barclays Center on September 19th
Same night as Deerhunter @ Webster Hall & Flag @ Irving Plaza. How lovely!

    Modest Mouse & the Faint

Southern California's long-running annual surfing competition, the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing, returns to Huntington Beach later this month and will bring with it an impressive array of musical talent. Two days of free concerts will follow once the daily wave-riding wraps, July 25 and 26, featuring no less than Modest Mouse, the Faint, Twin Shadow, Matt Costa, and FMLYBND.

The Thursday, July 25 show will find the Faint headlining with support from Twin Shadow and local up-and-comers FMLYBAND. On Friday, July 26, Modest Mouse will play following Matt Costa, a folk-pop fella who was in fact raised in Huntington Beach. Collectively, the shows are being billed as "the largest free concert of the summer."

    ^ Fuck that.

Wow, the US Open lineup is way better than last year as far as I'm concerned. I'll take a half-day off work. Shitty crowds be damned, it won't be hard to enjoy Modest Mouse more than I did at Coachella.

Complain more! You didn't get into YYYs because you were too cheap to pay for a ticket and just stood outside the venue. Bring your whiskey and enjoy some good music fool! Tell your boy Sean to fix the RSVP page (http://houseofvans.queueapp.com/events/640) for Melvins/Baroness! It was supposed to be open 3 hours ago...

M Ward just announced a rare tiny solo show at Union Pool on 7/31.
