Bonobo was awesome at Belly Up last night. I'm pissed they didn't play Eyes Down though... was really looking forward to that track. They played for an hour and a half, very legit set. The crowd was super boring... I want to see them in the Gobi at night with everyone going crazy.

I wouldn't be surprised if chella gets them for next year ala Spiritualized who did a little West Coast tour last year in May. Saw their Belly Up show that time around too.

Echo and Echoplex shows are almost always late...posted time is always doors, and SMA is not that far off as they are almost NEVER ready to actually open doors at the posted time. It's also highly likely they will be 10-20 minutes behind schedule all night too.

Tonight I saw Steve Reich and co. perform at the Bing Theatre at LACMA. Steve Reich performed on Clapping Music, which was cool. The program also consisted of WTC 9/11, Sextet, Piano Counterpoint, and Different Trains. I could try to do a big writeup, but it wouldn't do the show justice. Suffice to say it was easily one of the most emotionally intense/demanding/draining shows I've ever seen. WTC 9/11 and Different Trains (whose narrative takes place during and right after WWII and includes recordings of Holocaust survivors discussing their experience) were incredibly gut wrenching, but I think it was Sextet, a fully instrumental piece, that had me the most on the edge of my seat. Every single one of the performers tonight was super on point, fun to watch, and awesome at what they did.

Well, they haven't played L.A. since those Wiltern shows in 2010, so normally I'd say yeah. But they're playing the Greek the night before, so no.

It was for PBS. Fun show especially hearing new songs but I had to leave early for Boris who absolutely killed it. They didn't play all of Flood though which was kinda disappointing and it wasn't loud enough...

About Last Night | The National
Park Avenue Armory | New York, NY
    May 7th, 2013

The soaring, majestic Drill Hall in New York's historic Park Avenue Armory provided
an awe-inspiring setting for the National's taping for Live from the Artists Den on
Tuesday night. The massive space, designed to resemble a classic European train station,
hosted 900 invited guests, who witnessed a twenty-song set featuring the debut of numerous
songs from the Brooklyn-based band's forthcoming album, Trouble Will Find Me, along with
blistering versions of such favorites as "Fake Empire," "Bloodbuzz Ohio," and "Terrible Love."
This special performance, for which the National was augmented by horns and a string section,
will air this summer on public television as part of the sixth season of the acclaimed concert series.

    7/29 Conor Oberst @ Summerstage
    8/2 Daniele Baldelli/Simian Mobile Disco @ PS1
    8/2 Magda @ Output
8/3 Seth Troxler/the Martinez Brothers @ Gov Island
