I have only gone to one electronic event there. Gone there for rock shows primarily (Faith No More x2, GNR, The Cars and a few others), and one pop act (Scissor Sisters). I would actually suspect it would be less exciting for full on DJ nights (the one I went to I had all access for, so it was a bit of a different experience)... And I just don't get why it's such a hated venue... again.. it's not the best venue in town... but I've had far worse experiences at both The Greek and Club Nokia (and my average experience at Club Nokia is far worse than my worst at the Palladium)...

Speaking of Fidlar, I went to the Fidlar/Pangea/Meat Market/Summer Vacation show at VLHS on Saturday. It was nuts!

Local Natives were solid tonight. I'm not wild about the new album, and though the Gorilla Manor songs were definitely the highlights the new songs sounded good live and meshed with the older material rather well. But holy shit, no wonder they save Sun Hands for last. That song was incredible. Best song I've seen live so far this year.

Yeah Sun Hands is definitely not one of my favorites on record, but live it is by far their best.

Yeah, I thought it was much more notable of a show. I saw Fidlar, Pangea, Meat Market, and Spaceships at the L.A Fort last Monday and it was absolutely fucking mental.

This would make for an awesome in-between-Coachella-weekends Glasshouse show.

The best part about this, it's NOT a leased event which means lots of wine!

Oh and I can't hate the Palladium because it's conveniently located next one of my fave bars, The Well.

I feel compelled to chime in on the "worst venues" discussion.

The Sunset Strip triumvirate of The Roxy, the Whisky, and The Viper Room are the absolute worst places to see shows in L.A. Completely fucking terrible what ahppened to those places.

The Palladium, as Supre said, WAS a complete and total shithole 10+ years ago. I refused to see shows there after a while. But after the renovation, it's completely tolerable.

As for Gibson, i don't get the hate, other than it being overpriced. The sound is great. it's a very nice place for its size.

HMMM I wonder if this is going to be similar to the Disney show a few years ago, or if it will be a more conventional set with orchestration.

    I really like the Palladium.
I've been there a few times and I've never had any problems, really.
The only complaint I have was that when I went to see Arctic Monkeys there in 2009 they had all the curtains closed and they weren't telling us which one(s) they would open so everyone was crowded around every curtain entrance. Then when they opened them, they didn't open them at the same time and they opened the one that I was at first so everyone started running toward it and people fell on the stairs, including myself but I managed to get up and get a pretty good spot on the floor.
I haven't been to that many different venues so I can't say which one I really think is the worst or whatever.
Like a lot of people have been saying though, I'm not a huge fan of the Gibson. It IS overpriced and the sound's good yeah but I'm not a huge fan of seated venues.

Saw Muse on Saturday at Staples and The Who last night at Honda Center, both great shows. Band of Skulls and Vintage Trouble were great openers though I'd have to give the edge to Vintage Trouble with their infectious live energy. (Keep in mind I was at the barrier for the former and across in the nosebleeds for the latter.)

Got in line for Muse around 3:30, snagged a spot one row behind the barrier to the left. The setup was pretty insane and, minus the 'pyramid', reminded me of The Police's semi-in-the-round setup in '07. My memories of seeing Muse at the Forum in '07 are vague, but looking back at a few video clips that show seemed a little looser and not afraid to show a little more musicality. This was a highly arranged show, which I enjoy, and it was fun being up front, but definitely felt like a stadium show in an arena. Hardly any banter, which may have been the case the time before. Matt Bellamy looked ridiculous with his puffy shirt and cum-gelled hair. He also wore some type of electronic sunglasses during "Madness". The setlist was much better than expected - they played "Map of the Problematique" (my favorite) AND "Hysteria" (which I can't believe they're dropping from the set). Looking at the other nights' setlists I think I lucked out as one less familiar with Showbiz/Origin.

Question: Is it common practice for security to be constantly stepping up on the barrier and shining flashlights in people's faces for significant lengths of time to deter them from filming the show? Because that's what was going on and it was annoying. People aren't going to stop, anyway, if he can't get to them. Why detract from everyone else's enjoyment?

Our seats for The Who were good, for nosebleeds. Opposite end of the arena, head on view. They played all of Quadrophenia which admittedly I wasn't familiar with so I gave it a few spins yesterday. It's really good, probably better than Tommy. So that was nice, they didn't say a word to the audience until the 80-minute performance was done and then they played a smattering of hits starting with "Who Are You" (a personal highlight). They played all the major songs I wanted to hear minus "My Generation" and "Can't Explain", neither of which were really essential for me. All in all much more enjoyable than I expected. Even though there's only two originals left the touring band was pretty remarkable. Zac Starkey (Ringo's son!) pulled off Keith Moon pretty damn well. On bass was Pino Palladino who I first learned about from the John Mayer Trio. And Pete Townshend's son was in the band as well.

Mix of the band playing songs with the orchestra and without. Hopefully its not a short set.
