How early for a band like YLT?

Hmm... a day off work to walk around LA, catch a movie at the Arclight and go to the YLT in-store?

I think an hour early would be plenty. it's hard to tell though. I've been in Amoeba just shopping before, not even knowing there was going to be an instore concert and they just happened while I was there and I just walked right up to the front and watched. This happened with Both Gift of Gab and Supersuckers. The two biggest shows i ever saw there were Hieroglyphics and Tomahawk, and for both I only need about 20 minutes to secure a good spot.

The Growlers were a lot of fun last night, but had the worst crowd of 2012. Drunk hipsters everywhere throwing shoes, drinks, starting fights and moshing to slow songs. Even the band was getting annoyed when people kept falling into the security pit...

I saw them at SoHo here in SB last night. That was a ton of fun. Watching some security dude try to get people to stop their halfway moshing was hilarious. Good set, Good beers, good times.

Once Morrissey started bitching about the smell of meat, I went and got a hamburger, watched some Beirut, then walked up to the Macca crowd and found a good spot to stand. I'm one of those walk around the main stage headliner people, not the get in as close as you can to make it ghey for everyone else type. Plenty of space on the field, and the sound should be good (with the exception of Kanye, in my mind. Worst sound a mainstage headliner has ever had, I would say. A problem I expected with Jay Z, but didn't have). If you wait for more than ten or twenty minutes for an act to take the stage, you may not be managing your festival time properly...
