Just got back from seeing Jon Brion at the Largo. He played for just over 2.5 hours. Fiona Apple showed up for a handful of songs, as well as Benmont Tench and some others. They finished their encore with a live mash-up rendition of "Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer" and "Roxanne" (just think about it for a second) with Fiona on vocals. I love her so much. Probably my show of the year.
Put on the red nose?

I don't know their catalog by heart, and they only mentioned that one song was new right before they played it. It was really mellow and emotional sounding, and not in a good way. Although Robert did say it was the first time they were playing it live, so that was cool. There may have been a few other new ones, but I couldn't tell.
The highlight for me was an extended noisy version of Awake from their first album. It was stunning.

Yeah! It was one of those songs where I was so lost in it all that it'll likely remain my very favorite song of theirs, even as I get more familiar with their discography.

At the very last second I decided to see Big Black Delta at the Satellite last night, and it was awesome! He now has a fourth member, a live bass player, and really has kinks worked out since the last time I saw him. It was a short set at 40 minutes, but it was a lot of fun.
