Thread: Upcoming Shows

Yeah, crowd went nuts when I saw them. But to be fair I've seen old YouTube vids that look and sound great so Bryan might be right. I think it hurts that they don't tour with strings anymore, too.

I second cutter, last nights MMJ show was incredible. Setlist was amazing. Jealous of people going to all 3 shows!

Same reaction at FYF. Bitches were crying around me, guys were grabbing theirs girlfriends like they were going to disappear etc. People acted like Zach invited the trumpet. Their reactions were extremely distracting for one and almost discouraging being in that great of a spot and not being able to get into it save for a couple songs. Also, Zach is kind of doofus with his cooler than thou persona drinking whisky and shit in his sport coat murmuring sweet nothings to randoms.

Paul and I spoke about it before but it would be vastly improved with a touring string section. Maybe.

PS edit: i should refresh more often.

That might be it. I was starting to worry that maybe I was the problem, since I had an equally difficult time getting into Why? the weekend before and I've always found them to be pretty incredibly resonant live even outside the influence of my affection for the recordings. The second try after Beirut last weekend proved me wrong, though - all three completely killed it.

Yea I saw that earlier. I've seen them play that album at ATP 2009 (The Jesus Lizard was the best that night) and they kinda suck now (well two other shows I've seen were @ South Street Seaport in 2007 and when they opened up for MGMT @ Webster Hall in 2008?) so I'll probably skip it!

But I'll definitely be heading to LPR for just announced benefit show with Thurston Moore & John Zorn on 10/10! http://lepoissonrouge.com/events/view/3716

ps Looking back at these pictures, I really miss Kutcher's! Are any of you guys in these pictures???

Has anyone ever a) been to the Catalina Bar and Grill for a show, b) seen Bela Fleck, or c) both? I'd love to see Bela Fleck and he's doing several shows there with Marcus Roberts, but it's $40 for a ticket + you have to buy dinner (another $25). Also I dunno if everyone will be talking during the show, that would ruin it for me. Feedback?

So, if Swans played the same set last night that they did in San Francisco the night before (likely) then it was:

    To Be Kind*
    Avatar
Coward (from Holy Money. Thought I recognized it.)
    Fun*
    The Seer
    Nathalie*
    The Apostate

    *New songs.

They've done at least one other new one as well, so it's possible we got that instead of something else.

They kind of disappointed me at Coachella, but I thought that had mostly to do with all the talking that was going on around me. Looking back, though, I had trouble getting into it even when people weren't talking loudly. Can't see traveling for them, either.

I will also chime int hat Beirut are not that compelling live. the musicians are all very great at what they do and the songs are performed very nicely, but there's something that's just not there.

I didn't like their Coachella set either. Really, really off at some moments. However, the show in Portland was really good (in 2011). As was Sasquatch.

It's a beautiful thing to witness. St. Mark's Church show they did together was only 20 minutes long but it'll be in my top 5 shows of this year. My god the noise Thurston made along with Zorn on reeds. I never seen anything like it. John Zorn (founder of the Stone) plays there often and you should go check it out if you're ever in the city. I saw this show too
