    July 13-15 - Pitchfork Festival
    July 17 - Fiona Apple
July 20 - Mayhem Fest (Slayer, Motorhead, Slipknot, Anthrax, etc)
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I'm still not 18. I more or less understand age limits as some kids my age are downright obnoxious to be around at gigs, but every teen isn't like that. It seems like everyday a show is announced that I would love to go to (like Holograms yesterday and Kode9 earlier today), however, because of my age, I am unable to go and support these musicians. It is incredibly frustrating and there is no legal way around it. Thankfully, the Sun O))) show at The Echo/Echoplex is all ages so I will finally get a chance to check out those venues after having to miss countless shows there for something that is out of my control. I apologize for whining about this, but it is something that really is detrimental to my life and many of my friends.

    TL;DR
Not every 16 year old is a mindless, kandy kid.

edit: I realize this is fairly random, but it had been on my mind a lot lately and it doesn't warrant it's own thread.

Age restrictions are all law and insurance-based - they're not placed for any of the reason you're defending youself against.

Fair enough. Could you possibly elaborate on why certain venues are all ages? I'd imagine that the insurance for an all ages show would be much more expensive than for an 18+ show, but is it more than just that?

I'm afraid i don't know all the details, but a lot of it could be different codes in local municipalities.

EDIT: like, West Hollywood is able to have all ages shows in bars, but other places like San Bernardino and Orange counties if alcohol is sold it's automatically 21+ unless you have completely different sections.

EDIT: the all ages vs. 16+ vs 18+ etc things might have to do in some neighborhoods with local curfew laws too. I'm sure when places open up for business and apply for permits with their local governments there are all sorts of things that get brought up, and these restrictions can vary from block to block sometimes.

a big reason there aren't many venues in the oc that are all ages or under 21. don't sell liquor? don't make money.

Yes, I have. The legal drinking age in California is 21. I am talking about all ages vs 18+ and there is no way a liquor license has anything to do with that. I think Drinkey summed it up well with the curfew laws and what not. I will continue to eagerly await the day that I will be able to go to whatever venue I please.

edit: It is just confusing when a venue like The Echo will have mostly 18+ shows and sporadic all ages shows (like the Sun O))) gig/mini-festival).

18+ events can sell alcohol. And it doesn't end up such a crippling lawsuit when some 19 year old douche had too much to drink as opposed to a 15 year old that has no place at such event. Go get a fake ID and stop complaining.

just be glad you live in LA, and that your time will come soon enough. Borrow your brothers id or some shit like that, find a fake one, or just be patient. It could be worse, you could live in North Dakota and have access to none of these shows except in your dreams

So, bought tickets for Garbage at the Wiltern and noticed something new. They are selling pit tickets for $10 more. I wonder if you will be able to pay an additional $20 for VIP too. Gotta love Live nation.
