They were so good last night. Really decent set list drawing from lots of different albums. I won my tickets through Goldenvoice and was BLOWN AWAY by the seats they gave me. We had an orchestra box on Stephen Merritt's side, with nobody between us and him. I felt like a rich person and didn't even have my opera glasses.

I can only add to the words said above. I think the magnetic fields write such great music and then they put it another way live. Just the fact they redid that distortion song was incredible. Stephen merritt is the eye-ore of the music community though haha I felt like if I took a picture he was giving me the stare. Really nice show to just sit and listen to the lyrics and soothing music.

Agreed! The Magnetic Fields were amazing and their banter was hilarious. Smile! was soooo good.

    Tomorrow night at the Echo...hmm...

To the best of my knowledge, Part Time Punks’ annual KRAUTROCK NITE is the only one of its kind (at least in this country). And it’s certainly the only place yer gonna find members of Best Coast, Moving Units, Upsilon Acrux, Chelsea Wolfe and more…coming together to form NEU!, CAN and LA DUSSELDORF cover bands!

This is a serious nite of music folks–one that was booked FIVE months ago, with all of these bands working out their sets & practicing since then! So. FYI…here’s the break-down on who comprises the bands:

FAUST & NEU! cover band are comprised of members of BEST COAST, MOVING UNITS, UPSILON ACRUX & BAD DUDES

CAN cover band is comprised of members of UPSILON ACRUX, JAPANTIES, CHELSEA WOLFE, GRANDPIRE & TES ELATIONS

And, of course, the whole nite will wrap up with a Krautrockcentric dance party–meaning you’ll be hearing tracks by Stereolab, Broadcast, Clinic, Spiritualized, Loop, Heldon and other Krautrock-influence bands mixed in with Kraftwerk, Cluster, Harmonia, Holger Czukay, La Dusseldorf and all the rest…

Speaking of Nicholas Jaar, who all is going? Maybe we can all meet up for some pre-show drinks/food.

The show tomorrow seems like the kind of show where there will be like 3 opening acts and Jaar won't go on until after 11. Just a gut feeling.

I think you're right; it doesn't get started until 9, and there is one opener listed as well as "Guests," so I imagine it will be closer to midnight when he (finally) comes on.

    Jeez...people still care?

Jack Black & Kyle Gass aka Tenacious D, who just stopped in Austin make their live return at SXSW, will release a new album of (hopefully) funny and rockin' songs called Rize Of The Fenix on May 15. They said:

"We recorded down and dirty in a friend's garage with a shoestring budget of 600 dollars, much like Nirvana's first album "Bleach"-or the Beatles first album "Help". Rough and yet a masterpiece."

May tour dates in support of that masterpiece were previously announced and include the Sasquach Festival.

It has now been reported that the duo will be heading out on a summer tour that brings them back to NYC to rock our socks off at Hammerstein Ballroom on June 28th! Tickets ($55) for the NYC show go on sale Friday, 3/30, at 10am.
