Plenty of hot gals around like you'd expect. I thought Axl sounded great but the band shined above all.
Let me be very clear. Last night at the Wiltern was one of the best singular pure Rock N' Roll performances I have ever seen. Say what you will but this line-up of GNR puts on a hell of a show. Ever wanted to see one of your favorite bands ever play for over 3 hours and literally have a setlist have every song you would ever dream of hearing? Yeah, that happened last night. As usual the sound quality at the Wiltern was amazing and Axl's vocals were INCREDIBLE. He hasn't lost a single step. It's just a shame people don't give this band a chance. Anyways, I'd be there again tonight if I wasn't so tired from the 3 hour plus extravaganza last night. Axl truly is one of the greatest frontmen EVER.

Had I known last night was going to be so good, I certainly would have moved around work/schedule to make sure I saw at least two of these smaller LA shows. As it was, today was friggin hard as hell! I'd probably get fired if I dragged ass again the way I did today.

You're not overstating anything, btw. It was truly one of the best concert experiences I've had. It'll take a while to sort it. But, for now, I'm already considering when/how/where I'll get to see them again.

So glad you enjoyed it dude. Yeah I really wanted to go tonight but the late nights and work the next day also become difficult, lol. There's just something awesome about seeing a band just play and play and play for over 3 hours and giving their all every song. One of the best reviews I read said that after even after 3 hours the band still looked like they could keep going and going.

Also, I think that's the closest Axl has come out to the scheduled time in ages. They were scheduled for 1130 and prob rolled out 5 minutes after that. Totally caught me off guard. Around 1130 I remember telling my brother "we've got at least 45 minutes to go" haha.

I caught Apparat live tonight. First show at the El Rey since 2007 (how did this happen??). Man I miss that place. Great show. His live band was much better than in 2008, that's for sure. The song selection may have left a little to be desired, but no real complaints. I understand he is touring behind his new album which is a little different than his older stuff. Anyway, if anyone is waffling, check him out.

Oh, and he'll be at Lightning in a Bottle apparently.

Same sentiments. At least we got Rusty Nails, I was pretty jazzed about that.

Well I was just hoping you didn't have the dates mixed up. That's why I said if you were referring to the music box show.

anyways, if you snoozed yesterday the deal is back up again today! I guess the first day of sales yesterday wasn't as impressive as they had wanted?

He may be a difficult person to deal with but he puts on a hell of a rock show. What we need less of in the modern musical world is less overhyped indie bullshit nonsense that no one will give a flying fuck about 5 years from now.

He acts like an entitled child with a trust fund... and you call that being a rockstar? I know people that have worked with or spent time around Axl Rose and they all hate the guy. The stuff he pulls in inexcuseable and he does not deserve the fame he has. I have not seen Axl Rose perform live, and I know I never will, but I bet I have seen some of these 'indie" bands put on a better rock 'n roll show than Axl Rose ever will.

Ha, I met Axle Rose a few years ago while waiting for food at a Deli and had a pretty interesting conversation with him about music for a good 30 minutes and he gave me 2 vip passes to their show at Gibson and paid for my food for even knowing who the fuck he was... Really nice dude.

I have to say Josh, sometime the most annoying about an indie rock show is that the lead singer lacks stage presence. They don't have any personality up there, because they are so damn apathetic. I've never seen Axl or GnR, but it seems like he goes on stage like he owns it(entitled), and I imagine that can be an experince. One of the reasons I loved the Hives live, they fucking have so much bravado, and stage presence it kinda takes over the entire show. I imagine Axl being the same way.

Axl might or might not be a total dick, but who would you rather watch perform their greatest hits on stage Axl Rose or Ezra Koenig?

In terms of total dickness, Caleb Followill takes some beating. Anyone who demands an exclusion zone around his table in a near deserted restaurant and that servers must not approach his table unless he asks for them, is a fine candidate for total dick.

Why are these my only options? You're making it sound like every indie rock band is as boring as Vampire Weekend.

this whole thing is so wrong, well except for him being a dick, but he also puts up with a lot dicks. a lot of this is back in the day, but i call him a rockstar for his attitude, starting riots, fighting fans, drug and alcohol use that would kill a normal human being, being able to hold an entire stadium in the palm of his hand, and so on. name one person who came along after that who fits the bill.

believe me, i put up with a lot of his attitude, but it is axl rose, it's who he is, and i was more than happy to be able to be a part of the machine.

your line about an indie band putting on a better rock and roll show than axl ever has is laughable, though.

I have seen a ton of shows...and no GNR are not my favorite band of all time. But I have NEVER seen a rock star command an audience the way Axl Rose does and I'm sure I never will.
