You misunderstand me, it's not an issue of other people getting to see the bands, I don't care about that. What I mean is that I get this nagging thought of "is Coachella worth all the effort"? Almost every band I want to see at Coachella is playing a show nearby either before or after Coachella itself, and it makes me wonder why I spent $300 for a ticket, $75 for a campsite and why I am going to go out into the hot desert for 3 days with all my camping gear just to see bands play shorter sets with larger crowds. Don't get me wrong, Coachella will still be a ton of fun and worth going to, it just makes me question my investment I suppose. Sort of a "buyers remorse" type thing.

Ok so must vent a bit about the Caspa show at the House of Blues last Saturday night:

It's been awhile since I've been to a show like that, and wow. Just wow. I was vaguely aware of how bad the electronic/dubstep scene had gotten, but that kind of put it into full perspective. 9 to 1 male to female ratio. It truly is brostep.

I went with two friends and one of my friends decided to part ways as me and my friend went up to the balcony to hang out and watch. Overlooking the floor was ridiculous. Mosh pits, fights, drugs (not really surprising), security escorting people out, arrests, etc.

Sad that dipshits have taken a genre of music, yeah I know dubstep has had a bad rap to begin with, and turned it into an excuse to get loaded and fight.

TL;DR What is a matter with people. Promotors should seriously look into keeping shows like this on the outskirts of cities and not at regular venues. Keep this shit away from festivals and keep these types of people away from fesitvals. Im 22, and I feel like a goddamn snob because of this.

Well, if you consider that after fees it would probably cost about $300 (OR MORE) to see just 6 of these shows, you're still getting a good deal for Coachella.

After thinking about it more you are right, plus it's not like you can see more than one band a night. I think I just had an initial knee jerk reaction to seeing all these shows that would be so great to go to but I can't because I spent all my money on Coachella.

I would think not, because I think for those that are dedicated enough to go both weekends their joy in seeing these artists is partly by seeing them at the polo fields, which can only happen twice a year now. Even by being able to see these acts at special shows around Coachella it is still leaps and bounds different. And if anyone really felt that much less of a need to go two weekends, I think there is enough time to sell the tickets for whichever weekend they would no longer care to attend, with the only stitch in their planning possibly being time off work that they had already requested. Other than that I think its fine for anyone involved. And if all these shows make it easier/less of a financial burden for the artists to play Coachella with it being two weekends and all, then I am all for that.

Just want to say I respect you for posting this. These are just message boards after all. But the norm would have been for you to tell Drinkey to get farked, his taste in music sucks, etc blah blah. Well handled.

I honestly think Coachella is the all time bargain of bargains for major festivals in the US. It's well produced and the line up is always incredible. Worth every penny. But I know it's not cheap once you add in all the costs.

I guess I just thought (hoped) that they faded into obscurity, hadn't heard from them for a while. They were touring pretty frequently a few years back and it almost felt like they were the substitute teachers whenever a headliner dropped from a festival, i could be mistaken though.

Or how about because Jack Black is stale as fuck? And lost his short-lived appeal years ago? Shit album or lack thereof is irrelevant when you're as one-note as he is.

He was well used in The Muppets! Granted that may have been kind of a fluke, since I agree that he hasn't really brought anything to the table in some time.

There could always be something last minute. A real "secret show". But these were definitely the least likely ones to happen I'd say, sadly.

For non-SF people, the free Creators Project show in SF on March 17th is a good lineup worth considering a weekend up north:

ATDI won't play anything that isn't a festival offering at least high 6 figures. So yeah, forget about that theory. Hah, The Weeknd will probably play some secret show nobody knows about cause he is even more cryptic than I am. He's been playing a few times around canada, but there's never a formal announcement or antyhing.
