I have now seen Sparklehorse and the answer is wonderful. Mark didn't say much but he played many great songs like "Spirit Ditch" "Saturday" "Knives of Summertime" "Apple Bed" and "Hammering the Cramps." Those were, even, I think, the first 5 they played. So a good mix of songs, old and new. Not the old pop hits but in my mind the catalog is near flawless. Also the closer was "Homecoming Queen" which was beautiful. I might be mixing up "Knives of Summertime" with "Sunshine" which was also performed.
Jesse Sykes and the Sweethereafter opened; they only played a couple old songs (i.e. ones not from the album which was released today) mainly because they have a new violinist and she hasn't had a chance to learn the catalog. They were good; the new album has a little more movement but it still sounded like good stuff.
So yeah, everybody everywhere see Sparklehorse and rejoice.
There older stuff is to The Flaming Lips as their new stuff is to Steely Dan. The Trials of Van Occupanther is like a trip to the 70s.... It's good. They just put on a solid show.
