Should be fine. Took a couple weeks for their Echoplex show to sell out.

I skipped Bombay Bicycle Club at Coachella because I had a ticket to see them a couple weeks ago, but I ended up not feeling well that night and bailing on the show. How was their Coachella set?

Milo Greene is a great choice as an opener.

Banks tonight was good.....my god though the crowd was horrendous. Like, worst crowd of the year horrendous. And I moved several times to try and find a better spot, but there was no better spot to be found.

And i'm going to Lana Del Rey tomorrow.....which will probably be worse.

Hopefully this week doesn't make me lose faith in crowds.

I don't know what a Bombay Bicycle Club is, but I can say Milo Greene is the most bland thing I've ever seen. Their cover of Sufjan's "Chicago" is cringeworthy.

The Animal Collective DJ set last night was a lot of fun. I had no idea what to expect but they put together an eclectically groovy set, performed from behind a white scrim with filtered projections of them mixed in with psychedelic looped animations. For a sold out show it was surprisingly uncrowded down on the floor, which was fine with me. The blissed out Summertime Clothes remix rolling into snippets of Prince's Let's Go Crazy was probably the highlight for me.

Thee Oh Sees were great last night even without Brigid Dawson. Good crowd and snagged an Oh Sees print from the merch table. I got to admit that I chuckled a couple times when the bass player took sips of his PBR in between songs.

    Eagulls tonight!

However bad the Lana crowd was at Coachella, this was worse.

As we turn the corner to get in line, we spot 8 police cars and 20 policemen. That's strange, I thought to myself, it's not a great area, but is that big of a police presence really necessary at a Lana Del Rey concert? Read on to find out.

Everyone was just generally obnoxious, but that's to be expected. My sister and I get inside the Shrine Expo Hall and get to a spot we like. Five seconds later a couple teenage girls come running and one girl trips and slides right in to us, scratching my sisters leg and hitting me in the back pretty hard. It's packed pretty tight, and they then proceed to try and push their way through. The guy next to me isn't having it, and forms a wall. They literally start running in to him to get through, but he's a big guy so it just won't work. Eventually he gets fed up with getting physically abused and pushes one of the girls forward relatively forcefully, saying "You wanna go up, well there you go". The other girls then proceed to start yelling how they need help because this guy physically abused their friend, but it was so clearly provoked, and borderline self defense, that nobody around us took their side. Then, people are chanting Lana nonstop really loud, and when I tell them there's an opener at 9 and Lana isn't on until 10, they truly don't believe me. So when Father John Misty goes on at 9, people start losing their shit because they think its Lana. When they realize its not, people are pissed, and there's a lot more pushing and shoving. It's so flipping packed tight that it's hard to breathe. Throughout Father John Misty's set (it was solo btw, just him and a guitar), people are talking loudly, laughing, yelling, shoving, and there's always the occasional chanting of "Lana! Lana! Lana!". Several times during a song Father John Misty changed the lyrics to something along the lines up "everybody calm down, stop pushing and shoving". At one point he actually stopped a song in the middle to tell everyone to calm down. Finally, near the end of his set, he lost it and told everyone to calm the fuck down, expletive included. He sounded incredible, but by the end he was so miserable on stage it was uncomfortable to watch.

People started chanting Lana once again after his set, and once again nobody believed me that it would be another 35 minutes before she goes on. So fast forward to 9:50, 10 minutes before Lana is scheduled to go on. It's packed insanely tight and people are shoving and pushing so much that people are pretty much getting trampled. Someone comes on stage and says that we have to all take 5 steps back (there was a ton of empty room at the back of the expo hall since everyone was so squished at the front). After a few minutes it's clear the crowd isn't going to do that, so he says either we move back or the show is cancelled. Still, nothing. Eventually LAPD has to get on stage and start motioning for people to move back, and that finally has some effect. So Lana starts 20 minutes late, whatever. Now comes 75 minutes of sustained yelling and screaming and nonstop iPhone recording and selfie taking. We get outside and there's like 3 ambulances, a firetruck, and a bunch of police cars. My best guess is a couple (or more than a couple) people got trampled. Hopefully nobody was seriously hurt.

All in all a terrible night. Father John Misty was so good at the beginning, and it was heartbreaking to see such a talented guy break down and give up. I don't think there's any group of people in the world worse than Lana fans.
