I don't know any of these bands, but I had such a blast at a Scion fest four years ago that this is a blind commitment for me. Hard to beat free.

The top three are all killer, Crowbar and Bl'Ast! are both old school guys still rockin' out, King Buzzo is from Melvins, and both Power Trip and Windhand put out incredible albums last year. I really hope I can make it down for this.

    Machine Head (groove/heavy)
    High On Fire (thrash/stoner)
    Red Fang (stoner)
    Orchid (doom)
    Crowbar (sludge)
    BL'AST! (hardcore)
    Speedwolf (thrash/crossover)
    Power Trip (hardcore/crossover/thrash)
    Jex Thoth (doom)
    Coffins (death/doom)
    King Buzzo (blues/doom)
    Big Business (sludge)
    Midnight (black/thrash)
    Exhumed (death/goregrind)
    Windhand (stoner/doom)

Here is a list and categorization of all the bands I would recommend seeing. They are all really good. Wasn't a fan of Machine Head until the last two albums or so, but those are pretty good. I've also heard good things about Lord Dying, but haven't listened to them yet.

King Buzzo was great last night for his birthday acoustic set. He really didn't change up the songs much. They just have a really dirty blues feel to them when played on an acoustic. He was in a great mood and really talkative. Not something I have seen much from him. All around great show, and I would highly recommend for any blues or doom fans.

London Grammar was incredibly fucking fantastic at a sold-out Crescent in Phoenix on Fri night 3/21!

Just a stand-out performance by these Brit kids in this new band. The crowd was really into their beautiful music (minimal amount of stupid yakking over the music that’s so typical today). London Grammar's recorded stuff is good but they sound significantly better live.

The band members did just the right amount of occasional between-song interaction with the crowd, too (i.e., not much) and that bit of banter was refreshingly natural, witty, and appropriate. Better in this regard than most bands out there, in fact, however long they’ve been at it.

I catch a lot of shows, and this was one of the best in some time. Should definitely be at Coachella. I’ll look for them to be there in 2015.

Prince will host yet another late night party at his Paisley Park studios, this time billed Paisley Park After Dark. The eccentric performer revealed the news yesterday via his Instagram# account, which suggested—via hashtags—that the event will feature food, drinks, live music and, perhaps, some kind of Finding Nemo theme. The announcement also made it clear that there will be a $30 cover and that no phones, cameras or recording devices of any kind will be allowed in. Shuttle service from a local parking area will be provided as well, and the party will last from 9pm-2am. The event appears to be similar to past late night events that Prince has hosted at his Paisley Park home and studio in Minneapolis, including last October’s “The Breakfast Experience Pajama Dance Party.”
