This Will Destroy You @ Echo last night...kind of a snooze fest. Heard they were similar to EITS, not nearly as dynamic...closer to a less interesting GY!BE.

Wild Beasts last week @ Troubadour was perfect, their sound was awesome for a small venue (sort of overwhelms you a bit when it gets loud). Hope they'll be at Coachella again next year.

You got the part right about them being in the same genre as EItS and GY!BE. But I thought the show last night was excellent! Maybe not as good as the last time I saw them, paired with A Place To Bury Strangers, but still very good. The Echo was about as packed as I've ever seen it. Not sure I was loving that aspect of the proceedings since it got tough to move around. And the sound was a bit muddied until about midway through. Thought the band delivered though and glad to hear about the forthcoming new album. These guys are good.

I agree with you, I thought the show was pretty darn good. My friend forgot his earplugs and I felt so bad for him.

Any upper midwest people thinking of going to this? I am probably gonna go down Wednesday night for Hannibal Burress, Earth, and Wolf Eyes. Stay overnight for Thursday when I can hopefully catch Of Montreal (depending on time), Phillip Glass, and maybe Dessa or Mission: Deep. I don't really know much of either of the last two, so I may just leave early. I am basically just going down for Wednesday and Phillip Glass.

Forest Swords sounded really great last night. Dark, moody beats, live bass guitar. It was, however, for the most part ruined by a chatty as fuck crowd.

Yes. I've still been to shows there recently with good crowds -- Jon Hopkins/Clark, Television, Dengue Fever in the past 6 months were fine. I don't know what role St. Patrick's Day played in last night's obnoxiousness but I had to move to a different part of the floor 3 times. And it wasn't even like, the person next to me talking (though there was that), it was people literally 5 feet away from me screaming their conversation over the music. I didn't even stay for the whole set because of it.

"Black Flag" playing the House of Blues in West LA sounds like a depressing frosting on top of a cake made of shame and humiliation.

Why? HOB has a pretty good record of booking punk acts. I've seen a ton of great show there, even if I hate going there because of the location and parking. The venue itself is fine though.

Fuck Buttons seems like such an odd act to attract that kind of a crowd. But so does Forest Swords.

I really hope to see them at Decibel. It was 2 guys - not sure who the guitarist was, though they looked like they could be brothers.

Seriously. It was a double bill with How to Dress Well, so maybe a lot of people were there for that act and just waiting....but I don't know, I highly suspect that crowd talked through all of his set, too.

speaking of Hannibal Buress. He just announced a couple of shows here in LA at Largo next week. Last I checked tickets were still available for both nights.

True about the record of booking good acts, but it's also a venue that notoriously books laughable has-been acts.

yeah, it's more the latter, plus of all the possible venues in the entire Los Angeles area, getting booked at the chain music venue seems like such a dull option, unless it's on the only one available.

Any time Slint plays and I can make it I will go. Seen them 3 times and they're always excellent. Plus, it's great fun to watch Schoolofruckus drop the law on a couple of screaming assholes treating the show like a hair metal concert.
