    From Xiu Xiu facebook:
Freddy Ruppert plays music by Former Ghosts w/ special appearances by Yasmine (tearist), Nika (zola jesus), Angela & Jamie (xiu xiu)

w/ Continues (ex babyland) and Roses (abe vigoda)
    on 01/30/14 @ Complex
This makes me incredibly sad to miss this more so than the Spirtualized show in Feburary....even probably the Magic Band if i miss it.

edit: Oh at first I thought this was a one off but it seems Former Ghosts is active again and there's a new album coming out.

My friend asked me to join her to this show the other day, and getbetter's post caught my eye. I'm a big fan of Zola and Xiu Xiu.

Well I never saw Former Ghost and found out about the group through Spotify.I found Fleurs to be outstanding and highly recommend to anyone who likes Xiu Xiu.When the project first came out pitchfork and a lot of youtube comments acted as this was a second coming of Ian Curtis.

That is quite an endorsement. I will check Fleurs immediately. Thanks for the recommendation - and sorry you are going to miss the Freddy Ruppert show. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wow. The songs "Hold On" and "Dreams" on Fleurs are very dark and catchy - and the exact type of music I've been into lately. You were right on with the Ian Curtis comparison. Thanks again for turning me on to this album.

Next time, you'll need to plan ahead and get down here for some of these great shows. Chat with you very soon ...

Mutual Benefit was exceedingly pleasant and pretty tonight. I might've been in the minority on Emily Reo, but I loved her set (and for that matter, Monster Rally's) as well. Crazy to think Mutual Benefit had played L.A 4 times in the last 3 years, that album's clearly done big things for them.

DARKSIDE blew my mind last night. I went into it thinking it would be good, but they exceeded all of my expectations. One of the most captivating visual displays I have ever seen, and the songs have so much more energy live. If anyone is on the fence, do not hesitate to see them at Coachella.

    ^ add to this...

mmm Blue Ribbon's mac & cheese!

"In April when [Grateful Dead bassist] Phil Lesh plays, it’s going to go Phil Lesh at 9 o’clock, Trombone Shorty’s going to play a full show at one in the morning and Robert Randolph’s going to do gospel till dawn," Shapiro crows. "It’s like a festival lineup in a club. I don’t think that’s got precedent, to be honest. I don’t know when that’s been done. I don’t know when there have been three bands doing full sets in a club."

Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas is located in The LINQ, Caesar’s new entertainment complex. "It’s at dead center 50-yard line on The Strip," the New York-based music mogul explains. "It will have our Blue Ribbon menu, 32 lanes and 80,000 square feet in a free-standing building right under the biggest Ferris wheel in the world. It’s not in a casino. I think that’s an important element to creating vibe. It helps to have your own building and not be in the basement of a casino."

I didn't time it, but it was over an hour. I think they pretty much played all of Psychic in some form or another - all the tracks are very extended live and bleed into one another with various ambient interludes. I think they opened with "Freak, Go Home" or, at least, the opening song became "Freak, Go Home"

The guy who opened for them came on stage for the encore to play saxophone. I think that was the only "new" song I heard. Unfortunately, the bar at the back of the venue would get distracting during the quieter parts. I hope it's not an issue at Coachella (of course it will be). Visually, it was pretty cool... crazy circular mirror, smoke, etc.

I keep seeing very similar reviews of these guys' live shows. I can not get into their studio stuff for the life of me, i suppose i will have to at least walk by the tent when they are playing and see what the big fuss is about
