so excited for nils. i think Spaces is my favorite album of the year
Well, it's a workshop about vinyl collections and not a performance, which to me he thought it might be from his posting in here and mentioning the time frame as if it were strange, so i added a little bit of my own spices to the sauce.
Next Thursday, 12/19 @ Troubadour. $3 w/RSVP, $12 at the door
Red Bull Sound Select Presents: Los Angeles w/ EL-P; Azizi Gibson; Warm Brew; Thurz
Factory Floor just destroyed 285 Kent. They sound much better than I remember seeing them @ bowling alley in Asbury Park two years ago. Holy fuckin balls. New songs sound amazing live with great visual effects! Going to see them again tomorrow since they'll be on at midnight and Run the Jewels will be hitting the stage around 10pm

The Dismemberment Plan were awesome tonight. I've never seen a drummer play quite like that, what a beast. The show really should have been at the El Rey though, probably the most undersold I've ever seen the Fonda.

Superfan will be in front of the Fonda masturbating furiously to a photo of him taking a photo of a band. Set is from 8:05 to approximately 8:05:15. Guest list only.
Long shot, but any Chicagoans know what time doors open at Lincoln Hall? Is the time listed for the event doors or the first set? Tried calling, no luck...
The venue is usually open before the band plays and you can sit and drink or eat there and from what I remember bands usually start at the time listed on the ticket or event page.
Check out Sleeping In Is Giving In for great mixes and other cool stuff
The show was excellent. Loscil opened with a slow burning, mellow and melancholy ambient but beat driven set. The beats were usually more like a pulse or heartbeat than anything else, and complimented rather than detracted from the hushed ambient tones. I even got some head nodding in at points
Stars of the Lid are on another level. They played for 90 minutes including at least two brand new (long) songs. They also played a series of short snippets so those may be works in progress. It was Adam and Brian along with a 10 piece string section. Show was very quiet and subdued for the first half, mostly.light tones. No one made a sound other than the.occasional rattle of ice in a drink. Really great, respectful crowd. One thing I love about SotL is their emphasis on dynamics and how fluidly they combine loud and quiet. That said, the second half was noticeably more intense and louder, and one of the new songs had this absolutely wild part, chaotic and almost noisy. The visuals being projected during that point went from hyperspace travel Star Wars style to a rapidly changing mash up of bright colors. After a set of stuff newer material, they encored with something off The Ballasted Orchestra. It was a great set.
