What terribly TERRIBLY misguided venues for both Fiona Apple and the Dirty Projectors to play!!! Really? A GA STANDING venue with SKETCHY SOUND AT BEST for fucking Fiona Apple?!? Disney Hall. One or two nights at the Orpheum. One or two nights at the Wiltern with the seated floor layout. Any of those options would have been so much more appealing than the fucking Palladium.
And I know word doesn't necessarily get to the band, but doesn't the management of the Dirty Projectors remember what happened last time they played the Wiltern? Where even after giving tickets away it wasn't even half full? And that was at or near the height of their popularity. I'll be looking for a ticket on Goldstar the week after it goes onsale, for sure.

I'm pretty sure there is a lot more to it my big bear, most of these venue decisions have more to do with availability and agreements between bands and promoters than anything. Also, regarding Dirty Projectors... They do have a pretty hyped up follow up release due shortly, I would not have expected them to play anything smaller than the Fonda.
I guess Blackstar is doing tiny venues????
BlackStar (feat. Yasiin Bey, formerly Mos Def & Talib Kweli)
w/ The Foodchain, Whosane, and The ReMINDers
Friday, May, 11 at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom Denver, CO
9:00 PM (8:00 PM doors) / All Ages (16+)
Oh definitely not smaller than the Fonda. But the Fonda, itself. Last tour they went Troubadour > Wiltern, when they should have gone Troubadour > Fonda. Keeping with the smaller venue right around when the album gets out > larger venue once it's been out for awhile pattern, they should be doing Fonda > Wiltern. Not the Wiltern right off the bat, that's pretty much their ceiling.

But booboo, what if they already had a deal in place with livenation or other promoters that run some of these venues several months ago? They can't just say "we like the Fonda better because it's more our style and they have a better bar and sound system, keep your check".
I know. It just doesn't seem wise.

thanks for the info guys! AND thanks again Cutter for the livenation voucher, I used it to purchase Beach Boys @ verizon wireless, so thank you for being a good friend and letting me not let it go to waste!
Yeah when I saw Wiltern for Dirty Projectors I felt the same way, and again I felt bad for them. Hopefully ThomThom is right and they will have a better turn out this time around.
Anyone going to Girls/Yuck at Pappy and Harriets next week?
Go to fucking Oakland and stfu..... Better yet, why did you never go to Largo to see Fiona? You had plenty of chances.
I also didnt realize that Disney Hall actually had any gaps in their schedule. And I didnt realize you would want to pay $80 to see Fiona Apple at The Orphuem.

I agree with you Chris, the palladium is not a good fit for her, especially with that $63 price tag. Shame.
Now, I will watch all bands at the wiltern until I die and think its great fit for DP but I do hope they succeed in selling many more tickets. I think another big album like Bitte Orca will do it for them.
The Wiltern and The Palladium are both operated exclusively by Livenation so they really don't give shit about filling the places necessarily, and so seldom does it seem like anyone at livenation really cares much at all about placing artists in the right venues. The LN equivalent of the Fonda would be Avalon, which is actually a really nice place to see shows if they have a night of the week without a dance party that forces the show to end at 9:30pm.

I haven't been for a regular show there in years. I miss when it was the Palace and it had that cool smoking patio/bar upstairs instead oft hat being a separate club. They used to have so many cool punk shows there.
