Didn't enjoy Nico Jaar at all. I left half an hour into his set. Part of it might be that I worked an 11 hour day and have to wake up at 6 am for another one, and part of it might be that nothing he did in those 30 minutes was reminiscent of any of his studio output I've heard, plus it seemed like he kept using the same tricks (that did nothing for me) over and over.
I hope for the rest of you that it got better.

I think you needed to see the show without having a long day attached to it.
I enjoyed it quite a bit. I liked that he wasnt just making carbon copies of his studio work and the band was putting their own touches into the material. Also, the sound tonight was great. Im sure you would even agree with that even if you didnt enjoy it.
I couldn't disagree more. The set was far from weird, and the sax was very subtle and nothing more than an accompaniment and I thought it worked great in the overall mix.
The entire show was fantastic. I liked his album from last year, but not nearly as much as many seemed to, but the performance tonight was just great. A nice slow burn main set followed by a dance party encore. First time I've been toward the back and experienced sound that good at that venue, yeah.
Great meeting no surprises and rough steez, my apologies to rag and bone for not recognizing him at first, alcohol's a hell of a drug, hahaha.![]()

Great Vid Supre! Only slight disappoinmnet about last night was no live female singer and some sort of visual screen wouldve taken that show to the next level #epicstatus. Nice meeting ya finally and ThomThom too. Tough call on this or Fred Falke for LA Show of Q1 2012. Fred Falke was more dancey fun but this got me in the ZONE!

I enjoyed Nic Jaar last night, at first it seemed like the audience was going to care less but people got into it. At least where I was. Loved the sax, but yeah where the fuck were the visuals that would have been awesome!
The Smell just does ticket sales at the door right?
Nicolas Jaar was fantastic. A few lulls, a few missteps, but a ridiculous amount of musical peaks and huge soundscapes.

Nicolas Jaar was a lot fun last night. The sax was a really nice subtle touch and the sound was really good, especially considering how far back we were. I could definitely see why people didn't enjoy him much in SF though. The biggest issue I had with his performance is that I thought it lacked a certain momentum throughout. He ended up repeating a lot of the same effects and transitions. I felt like it really picked up during the encore though and people around us really started groovin hard. I regret not seeing him when he came to LA last time, he was doing DJ sets of his material then. I would have liked to compare both sets.
Great to meet some more boardies last night! Thanks Felicia for introducing me. I was so wiped after the show though and I had to drive so far, next time I'll stick around. At work right now and I really need a nap.
waka waka
Paging Oscar. Not sure which show you ended up at when they conflicted with Of Monsters and Men, but they're back.
2:54 @ The Troubadour 6/26
I'll echo the praise for Nicolas Jaar last night; I thought it was a bit slow getting going, but once he started to transition between the sound-scappy stuff and his album tracks about 30 minutes in the set just continued to pick up momentum. I really liked what the live guitar and sax brought to the songs, and although some kind of visuals would have been nice I still left pretty happy. It was also nice meeting TallGuy and Scenestar!
