Thread: Tom Waits at Coachella

    Default Tom Waits at Coachella

Seriously, I know it probably isn't a possibility, I mean he doesn't really play live too often (the Orphans tour was only about six shows, and he only played the Bridge School Benefit in Mountainview, California this year I think) but we should somehow rally to get Mr. Waits to play at Coachella. You know, like with molotov cocktails, boards with nails, and/or poisonous elixirs. To whom these weapons of persuasion will be aimed at, I've not no idea, but pu pu pu pu pleeeeeease can we have Tom Waits? In all honesty, with Portishead, My Bloody Valentine and Aphex Twin possibilities aside, if Tom also played it would not only blow my mind, but also my load.

It will never happen, but I still sure as sh*t hope that GV asks him every year.

I'd love to see Tom as much as anybody, but I'm not sure Coach is really a good venue for him honestly. Blues in open air... yeah, no.

I dont know... I think him closing the outdoor theatre would be beyond amazing. I envision it having potential to be one of the best Coachella performances ever.

Sorry, for my money Tom Waits needs to be played in a small, dark club with cocktail service, thick-ass clouds of smoke (CIGARETTE smoke), and absolutely no sound bleed from whatever shit is going on on the main stage. There's no way he wouldn't get drowned out.

I mostly agree with that. Except that it seems unlikely that Tom Waits would play a small club. But it would be ideal.

There is no way Tom Waits would play a small club. But yes, I agree.

Tom Waits came to town a couple years ago and played two sold out shows at a theatre that holds 2,500 people.

I kick myself on occasion for not listening to Tom Waits at that point.

Yes, of course the small is unrealistic. But at least at mid-sized venue that feels like a small club. In my fantasy it's like the place where Jessica Rabbit performs.

Is Jessica Rabbit doing a duet with Tom Waits?... that would be epic.

I saw him at Bridge School Benefit this year (which is an outdoor venue - amphitheatre) and it was still very very enjoyable despite being a large and outdoor and sunny venue. Granted, no other stages' sound bleed to deal with.

I actually think he'd be workable on the lineup early in the day.

if not headlining, he should be the closing act on the main stage or outdoor theater
