Default Songs You'd Never Expect To Hear When Entering A Place

Yeah, I just walked into my school's cafe, and they were playing "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel on the boombox. Pretty righteous.

Also, like 2 months ago, they were playing "Fake Empire" by the National at the McDonalds I went to eat at during my job training lunch break... Weird.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * The Flaming Lips perform The Soft Bulletin - Bimbo's 365 in SF on February 21st
    * Jeff Mangum - Fox Theater in Oakland on April 10th

Five Years of Coachella Glory: 2007 - 2011 (skipping 2012, maybe I'll be back in '13?)

i once figured out how to make it so our "muzak" style music system at our store would play normal cd's instead of the preprogrammed stuff that was sent. it was nice to walk into work at 6am, throw on dr. dre's "chronic" album and go take a couple tokes in the walk in freezer. we would even try to play it during business hours and just turn it down when customers would come in, but our slow reaction times got us in trouble more than once. oh to be young again...

February 2005 I'm in a tux shop in a mall in Jacksonville, FL and hear "Crown of Love". The FYE across from the store was playing Funeral. Badass.

Nice. The question I now reflect on is...Why in the world would McDonalds be playing a National song?... Perhaps a mix-up occurred and they thought it was a country western album?... It still boggles my mind to this day.

While paying my car insurance. The lady in the office was hearing NPR's morning edition. NPR use Aphex tracks quite often.

Last week, during my 15-minute supermarket trip, I heard R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)," XTC's "King for a Day," and Talking Heads' "Burning Down the House" back to back to back. The fourth song? "Ice Ice Baby." There has to be an explanation.

Was at Golden Corral (basically an east coast Hometown Buffet except not quite as horrible) back in February and while talking about Coachella, "Don't Dream It's Over" started playing.

In my case, it's been in reverse since I've lived in Korea.

There's a bar close to where I live, called, ahem, "Rock N' Roll Bar" but the one time I went, they played fucking Celine Dion and Destiny's Child.

At work i've been stupefied lately, I walked in and didn't at first recognize the song but when i realized i was jamming to it i was shocked to realize they were playing Jamie Lidell's The City. They started playing The National's Fake Empire like on the day that album was released. They've also been playing Tori Amos, i don't know the name of the song tho'. They played Drive by R.E.M., Crazy by Gnarls Barkley and Float on by Modest Mouse.
They're getting pretty hip for a grocery store.
    I miss Bill Hicks.

I was in a muffin shop in Welwyn Garden City today, and they played Lovers Spit followed by A Movie Script Ending. I nearly spilled my tea.

I went to Moxies for supper not to long ago, and they played yeah yeah yeahs, Broken Social Scene, Nirvana, Meligrove band and Queens. Just one song may have been nothing, but they were all in a row. I was so surpirsed.

That must have had a serious impact on your life... To remember where a Radiohead song was playing back in 2001?

Well that was the summer I started really getting into Radiohead. We were in California on vacation and I was playing a poorly burned cd in the rental car nonstop.

When I worked at Marble Slab, I would put on a playlist of pure Coachella artists playing the festival the month before Coachella.
