Good point, instead of gearing towards just gamers, might as well get people to replace their roku/dvr/tevo/whatever device they use at home for tv. A $450 dvr. A poor choice in purchase if you ask me, but many folks who have that money to spend blindly wont think twice about it. MS is probably trying to become apart of your every day life....as if Office wasn't enough.

Ever since my Xbox OG started telling me my USA copy of "Toe jam and earl 3" was not the proper region. I gave up on them.
This was several months after the CD ripping to hdd stopped working and DVDs? Shit never worked passed the first 5 months of ownership.

Microsoft should have just stayed at XP and Office 98. They would be so much better off.

Basic cable is dead comcast/xfinity/direct tv will be no more in 2 years. Everything will be cloud based in 10 years. There will not even be a need for hardware other than a screen. Apple/google will dominate with this market as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube will be major players in original content.

Yesterday's press conference was not so very subliminal in telling you what the next 10 years of billions/trillions of dollars of company money will be spent on.......TV, Sports, and franchise gaming. If Microsoft controls these markets they will dominate the home entertainment industry. Gaming is third seat now as it might as well be PC gaming. Why the fuck would you buy a next gen console when a pc does the exact same thing these days. Todays and future "video games" are not what is at the heart of the arcade.

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo do not care about "gamers" any more.

The whole "cloud" is a crime. Has everyone forgotten the Diablo III and Sim City debacles? Is that what people want, to rely on other company's servers to stream/process/render everything for you over an internet connection (which fucking blows half the time in the US - seriously, the US should be embarrassed by their internet infrastructure). Microsoft is already advertisting to developers that they can program/code in requests in their game to have some of it processed/powered by Microsoft's cloud servers, which just means that a game (even a single player - NON multiplayer game) would need a constant connection, and if it didn't, it would fail to to launch/play. Who in their right fucking mind would want that? It's sad and horrifying that that is where we are heading. Too many blind consumers who "must" have their next Madden and COD I guess.

This whole thing works on devices like iphones and ipads, but the games are just too big for console systems.

I was an early adopter of every non-Sony device Microsoft supported - Dreamcast, Xbox, 360, and I can't stand the look, feel, or features of the Xbox One. I'm 100% willing to give up my sickeningly high Gamerscore so I can move on with a company that doesn't have contempt for their user base.

But then again, maybe they respond to the near-universal hatred of some of these features by stepping away from the ledge. I know If I can't give a game disc to a friend/family member who can then play it for free, I won't buy any game discs. I'm too lazy to re-sell games, but I commonly give away old games because it makes me feel like a cool guy.

I never liked the idea of cloud computing. Cloud gaming doesn't interest me either. Nothing about it does, in either case. No one can guarantee digital security, why we're so eager to blindly digitize our entire lives is beyond me. Essentially giving up our person. We do it here, on Facebook, email....everywhere.

Still, I would like to bitch a little bit just like everyone else about Xbox One. I've been an avid gamer for 25+ years, and I never never once related to system fan-boyisms. I have always had each of the big players (NES, Sega, 3DO, PS1/2/3, Xbox, 360, Wii, Wiiu, etc.) and I played each (more or less) equally, depending on exclusives and what not.

For the first time in all of these years, I am actually considering not spending my money on a next gen. NFL games? Don't care. Kinect? Don't care. TV bullshit? Don't care. Social media hub? Really don't fucking care. A NEW CALL OF DUTY GAME? YIPPEE FUCKING DOO.

Spelunky. It's been around for a while and is Free like the original cave story. Randomly generated platform/adventure levels. Get the treasure and get out.

Dust: An Elysian Tale. It's coming out on PC next month, keep an eye out for it. Its one man's passion project like cave story but with a little more action than adventure mixed in with its platforming.

Fez. Just released on PC today; Fez is a puzzle/platformer with devilish depth and great presentation.

Braid. Puzzle platformer which uses time mechanics to twist your mind.

There are also some Cave Story/Metroid esque games currently in the pipe on kickstarter. You might want to check out A.N.N.E. and Chasm.

Bit late to this, but thanks for these recs. I picked up Fez out of them, and have played Spelunky quite a bit. Fez is queued for after Dustforce, but first I have to beat the final chapter of Hotline Miami. That game has been great and I really want to do the "puzzle" stuff after I finish the main game. Braid looked very interesting, but at $20 I'm gonna have to wait.

Except the social networking isnt required and you don't have to use it. And the Share button you can use to just record footage of gameplay and upload to youtube, which thousands of people already do.

As much as I would love to see the death of Time Warner Cable, two years is overly optimistic on the death of basic cable. The numbers don't support it yet. More people are still signing up for new service than are cutting the cord.

I had a PS2 Slim years ago but I can't find it anywhere. Thankfully I have a launch PS3 that plays PS2 games. I also still have my Dreamcast and SNES hooked up to my TV.
