Beastie Boys are better live.
Beastie Boys are better live.
Upcoming Shows:
Pitchfork Festival: 7/19 @ Union Park

TV on the Radio are better on record.
MSTRKRFT are better live.
Justice and Daft Punk are better live than on record.
Blonde Redhead and Brazilian Girls are better on record than live.
Whiskey Sour
2 oz blended whiskey
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp powdered sugar
1 cherry
1/2 slice lemon
Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.
The Weezer thing is a WAAY past their prime thing sorta like the Dylan thing already discussed.
I can't comment on LSF, you lucky bastard.
I'll ignore the next set.
I agree with Sigur Ros (though, ironically, I was bored seeing them live and said "this might be good on record") and Joanna Newsom. I am not sure I'd choose for the White Stripes; I have seen them and been enraptured (earlier in their career) and I've seen them and only really liked the show (more recently.)
Melt-Banana are better live. Enon are better on record.
Aimee Mann, Pinback, Appleseed Cast, Tapes n' Tapes, Of Montreal, TV On The Radio, The Dears, Bloc Party, Mobius Band, Stellastarr*, The New Pornographers, The Decemberists, Sleater-Kinney ... are better on record (but then I'm not really a big fan of some of them on record).
Editors, Metric, Hard-Fi, Margot & The Nuclear So and So's, Mute Math, Athlete, The Fratellis, Arctic Monkeys, Joss Stone, The National, Midlake, The Cure, R.E.M., Franz Ferdinand, Depeche Mode, Damien Rice, Willy Mason, U2, Duran Duran, Blonde Redhead, Yo La Tengo, The Go! Team, Tool, Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, Animal Collective, Hot Chip, Kruder & Dorfmeister ... are even much better live.
The White Stripes are so underwhelming(ly disappointing) live but then I'm not a really a fan of their records. I know it's only me because I love The Raconteurs (live & on record - it must be because of Brendan Benson).
I don't get My Morning Jacket and Hold Steady on record AND I hated their live shows.
Klaxons are hit (on tent they are so awesome at Coachella '07) or miss (on big stage, ewwwww, they sounded horrible at Glastonbury '07 but then I was not actually there) live but their remixes are so much better than their regular record.
I dislike Coldplay's on record but I kinda like & find their live shows entertaining.
Sorry DP diehards, but I found Daft Punk live to be only marginally (yeah, it's the fans & lights show) better than on record. I actually dislike their ACL performance now (it must be because I hated their fans there) AND I regret that I abandoned Depeche Mode's set last year for a good spot for DP. Anyway, unlike Tiesto (hate him now after seeing his live show at Ultra Music Festival), at least I don't hate DP.
Can't really decide/tell difference:
Wilco, Aloha, Annuals, !!!, LCD Soundsystem ...
I'll probably get backlash for this.
LCD Soundsystem is better on record than they are live.

I saw them at a festival during the summer, and they were disappointing. However, I would definitely give them another chance, say in maybe a club or smaller venue.
Oh, Air is also hit or miss live, their Coachella was short and sweet but I could'nt understand what went wrong at O2 Wireless in London (that's where I also saw TWS live) that they did'nt blow me away (actually, I was underwhelmed) considering that they played a longer set in tent over there! I would say they are better on record (even at their best live).
Hot Chip > LCD Soundsystem (live & on record)
PRINCE
Mogwai are better live.
I miss Bill Hicks.
I find their records to be disjointed and lacking any kind of unifying direction. There are some great singles on the albums but the live show is where it's at.
I'm only a casual edm fan but I find DP to be astonishing and I only saw a little of their set at Coachella having stayed for all of Depeche Mode.
I'm sure they do. But when I saw them at v-fest, it just wasnt as good as I was expecting. The crowd was lame, and James didnt even seem like he wanted to be there. And what idiot put them on the 2nd stage and not in the dance tent?
I would give the overall performance a 6/10.
I would definitely give them another chance in a small club setting, I'm pretty sure they can redeem themselves.

Let me clarify my White Stripes decision.
I love them. So much. Jack should be my uber-awesome dad. But, live, they act as a bulldozer, destroying all in their path. After I see them live, I can't listen to their albums for at least a month because the shows are so awesome. I've seen them 5 times, and this has been the case every time.
And, John, get to LA for the Les Savy Fav show. You have to do it. It'll be too good to miss.
Radiohead is better live.
Ladytron is better on record.
