My Fujifilm F770EXR takes some pretty good shots. The 20x zoom is great for getting front row-esque shots from a fair distance.

EG - I was at least 100ft away for this one.

I'm also interested in an updated answer to this thread - but the emphasis would be on it's video recording and sound quality being good and not blown out if I'm humping a speaker.

I recently bought this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX30V and I'm VERY impressed with the quality of shots and video.

Including the audio not getting blown out and distorted? Have you really tested it out near some large shows near speakers? I know standing near speakers is not ideal but sometimes you cant choose where your friends want to stand.

I've only had it 10 days and haven't been to any shows during that time, but we did take it on vacation and all those shots inside and out came out way better than the Powershots we've had in the past. Also, my wife took a ton of shots from a balcony in a pretty large and dimmed auditorium last night and they all came out really good. I was very impressed with the stability control of the videos she took when zoomed in from pretty far back. I can’t really comment on loud sound at this point.

Even very high quality studio microphones are going to get blown out and distorted standing right next to speakers.

The problem I look out for is how they shoot in dark (you know, concert-like situations). Cameras I've had in the past did really well in the daylight but were virtually worthless at night for concerts. I like that new, fit in your pocket point and shoots are coming out with awesome zoom lengths. We may have to spring for a new camera...

The current Canon Powershot is 12.1 megapixel with a 20x optical zoom and can be had for $214. Those cameras really are the best bang fro your buck. I had the previous gen model that had a 16x optical zoom and I was extremely happy with it! Only real downside is they are on the larger side, but are pretty lightweight. Unfortunately I lost mine at FYF last year, so I'll probably be getting a new one before Solid Sound.

Does anyone have any experience with the Powershot SX500 IS, or the SX240 HS? I'll be using the camera at 3 festivals as well as for general travel pictures this summer. Are there any current favourites floating around?
